Jaguar - Another Iconic Brand Consigned to the Dustheap of Woke Fuckups

How is this political?
Woke de woke de woke. It's a classic example of politics and wishful thinking over reality.

Unless it's the most amazing troll to get attention. I mean, when was the last time someone spoke about jaguar. Never even occurred to me. I like them but it's not like I wasted any brain cells on even thinking about them.

But this has gone totally viral and got lots of people talking about them. If you wanted to get attention, what a way to do it. Outrage tweets, news articles, threads on forums, you name it. Total brand recognition!

And then you flip it as a troll and do something cool like this....and people won't be outraged, they will pee themselves laughing and say "you got me" and love it. And hey., you have a huge audience! Now THAT would be truly brilliant.

Somehow tho, I think not. I think it's just your usual woke goonda-brain fucking up, misreading the room and tanking the brand. I mean, he used to work for Bud Lite. Says it all, really.

Poor Chloe will never have her jag

Whoa - so they're completely abandoning their established customer base and targeting a brand new market. THAT is going to be a challenge. Incidentally, that's what Bud Lite tried to do as well. This is going to be fascinating to watch.

They've also pretty much stopped selling old models and new ones will only be available in 2026, so a year to a year and a half hiatus with no sales. I can't imagine remaining Jaguar dealers will be happy with that either.
  • Management expects 90% of customers to be all-new to the brand; they will be younger, urban, and they will have to be wealthier, as the next-gen Jag will be twice the price—from about $60,000 today to $120,000 or more.

We need to be thinking about phasing out the automobile entirely, not just replacing gasoline engines with electric.

The JLR group includes the production of Land Rovers and Range Rovers.

The website of the group talks of ‘The new era’ of Jaguar illustrated by a most peculiar image of a black voodoo like female puppet with extraordinarily long arms. She is wearing a floaty pink dress. The logo is ‘live vivid’.

‘This is Jaguar. Bold. Dramatic Fearless. Exuberant Modernism. delete ordinary.’

What a load of nonsense that has no relation to the design and engineering of luxury motor cars and I fear there is worse to come. As an advertising campaign it is in another sphere of disaster! I think it can be safely concluded that Bud Lite is off the hook for this year’s booby prize.

Fortunately, the Land Rover section of the company does not, yet, appear to be infected this madness.

Well, this looks to be a monumental fuckup, on a par with Bud Lite, except this may destroy Jaguar. Rebranding gone Woke and Insane. How to destroy a brand in 30 secs.

The firm's managing director has admitted that those likely angered by the rebrand are no longer the target market - as it seeks to attract a new, younger audience with an all-electric range of brand new models. This is just fuckup after fuckup. The firm's managing director has admitted that those likely angered by the rebrand are no longer the target market - as it seeks to attract a new, younger audience with an all-electric range of brand new models. So they've killed their existing target market for one that doesn't exist? They're going all-electric just when EV's are losing momentum, and are going to stay a niche at best.

They've killed their iconic and distinctive old logo for some totally forgettable wording.

This is going to be fun to watch as this woke retard destroys Jaguar and management enables him.

Who buys a new one?

Everyone preferred Coke™ "Classic."

It will happen without us thinking about it.

Someone will invent a better mousetrap and quicker if we keep government from picking winners and losers (because unsurprisingly, winners always seem to have a lot of cash on hand; mother's milk of politics).

It really looks like a perfume ad... not a car ad. (shrugs)

The bad thing is- you know someone got paid a boatload of money to make that dreck....

The company has said that a team of 800 people worked on the radical redesign and re-branding! A team of 800 people!!! Altho I would guess most on the redesign rather than to do that re-branding. Their entire management seems onboard with it too. They'd have to be to rebrand like this.

Let's see,
....they intentionally reject 90% of their traditional market. For a target market that doesn't buy Jaguar and they don't have.
....They double the price of their cars.
....they stop manufacturing existing makes and models
....new models will not be available to 2026 - I kind of wonder what Jaguar dealers will be selling in the meantime?
....they go totally woke when woke as a market is dying / being rejected

Shakes head. Okay. Bizarre, but, okay. I just want to see how this works out. It's not often you see such total commitment to a woke marketing experiment, that commits the survival of an entire company to a political philosophy....have at it guys. On the plus side, I guess, Tata, the Indian conglomerate that now owns Jaguar and Land Rover, has deep pockets. Seems weird that they would buy into this, but whatever. It's their money.

As for the rollout, which has been panned as 'woke' and 'unhinged,' it continued with a cryptic post apparently teasing a new vehicle. The image appeared to show even more deviations from the company's classic iconography, with what looks to be the rear of a car more akin to Tesla's Cybertruck than a F- or S-Type.

LOL. This is an experiment for the ages! Win or Lose, this will go into marketing textbooks. Jaguar's an iconic brand that's lost its way with falling sales - I think their sales have halved since 2020. BUT they have some amazing strengths - an iconic symbol that's got world wide recognition. An "image" that could be built on. Some beautiful designs that could be reworked into a modern look and feel that retains the history.

Instead we get a Tesla????? Anyone that wants a Tesla already has one.

I'm a car guy. Wat is a car guy, too. We do cars. New cars, old cars, cars in-between cars. Trucks, motorcycles, tractors, stuff. Internal combustion. It works. It still works. If you're in town, an EV might make sense. Maybe. Out here in the fields, we need reliable stuff for moving stuff and getting places. ICE. Ain't broke, don't need fixin'. EV ain't fixin." it's "fuckin' with," and that ain't fixin'."

Jaguar made some good looking cars. As was mentioned, be prepared to have a mechanic close at hand if not on staff. The best XKEs got Chebby engines installed. Lucas electrics suck. Cars with electric fuel pumps under a rear fender that won't run when it's cold-n-wet, which is a definition of Britain, is ridiculous. If you want a finicky car with interesting styling, fine and dandy. If you need a reliable grocery getter/kid hauler/go-to-work mobile, get an F-150 extended cab.

We support your desire to have a car because we're car guys.

Oh, and they said we'd be outta dinosaur juice by the 1990s. They seem to have been (at least) a century off.

Chloe

In the mid 1990s I was tempted to buy a twenty year old E-type Jaguar. The yearly cost of insurance was horrific, nearly a fifth of the cost of the car. I got to make a test drive and I was in ‘heaven’…but common sense ruled the day.

If ever I get divorced, ie never, an Aston Martin would be my go-to choice!

This is not Jaguar's first marketing disaster; in fact their origin was as a marketing disaster. Their original holding company in 1934 was called Swallow Sidecar so they abbreviated that on their first model to SS. But considering the sinister connotations of SS. in the late 1930's they soon dropped that for Jaguar.

I have a 1953 Bristol 403, much prettier than a Jag, hotter and much classier too.
