Does anyone know what the typical length of time is for story removal requests? I submitted a removal request for my one and only 750-word tale on November 4th and it’s still pending. I dropped a note to Laurel several days ago without response. I’ve rewritten and renamed the full-length multi-chapter story that will replace it and noted that in the editor notes on the removal request, but that didn’t seem to make an urgency difference. I am waiting to submit the new story until the old one is removed, so it’s frustrating it’s taking so long.

No idea why it's taking so long. My requests of a similar nature took as long as the regular story publishing ones.

By the way, I wholeheartedly support any effort to decrease the number of 750-word stories. :p

I wonder if they only process story removal requests once or twice a month like Illustrated story submissions?

If I remember rightly, it only took a day or two to delete 20+ of my stories. That was over a year ago, though.

I've been deleting and republishing as it's quicker than the editing system. 2-3 days for deletion. 3-4 weeks for an edit

You lose all your meta data doing it that way, though, if that's something that matters to you.

My (minimal) experience in deleting stories - took about the same time as an edit, i.e. a while.

The ones I have been deleting are either poor scores or low numbers or votes.

To bring this conversation full circle, I just received a detailed message from Laurel suggesting my request was ambiguous—it appeared I was intending to edit vs. delete. She assured me they would delete it upon confirmation of my response. My apologies to the group and if nothing else, make sure you follow the deletion instructions to a tee when making removal requests.
