If anyone has, or is thinking of, setting up an account on Bluesky to promote your stories, Emily Miller has set up a "starter pack" for Lit authors.

Starter Packs are a feature on Bluesky, which allows members to create public lists of other members by any criteria they choose, making it easier for people to find those of like interests. The Literotica Authors pack currently has about thirty people listed. If you would like to be on it, contact either Emily or me.

Bluesky is the most promising of the Twitter alternatives. I moved over to it from Twitter this week. Millions are joining it right now.

Unlike other contenders, it feels like early Twitter, but it is decentralized, a little like Mastodon. Theoretically that helps avoid future capture by billionaire idiots. Unlike Facebook's privacy-destroying Threads, the company behind Bluesky is a "Public Benefit Corporation" so might be less prone to evil.

Maybe like Twitter we'll get 18 years out of Bluesky before it also suffers enshittification and we have to start over.

I love how people say Twitter got nastier when the reality is, the former owner censored 50% of the political discussion, and the new owner changed that.

But if nasty is hearing actual free speech, as opposed to "just speech I agree with" Sure, quite nasty.

I agree with @TheLobster if is the site is more moderated it means more eventual trouble for adult content. "Oh, well that story is okay, but this one too extreme" and who decides extreme? Them or some moralist who finds it and is offended by it.

I have been active on twitter for a long time, I know very well what my experience there has been like and how it has changed dramatically in the last year or so. If your experience has been different, good for you.

If Bluesky becomes less fitting for my needs, I'll move on. Right now, it is very active and growing fast, so it makes sense to post there to promote my stories. I'm not trying to sell stock in the place, just giving people who do want to use it some info to help them get started.

There is a growing literotica author community...we just need the readers to find us!

Nasty is people delighting in the freedom to be hateful.

Nasty is people labelling everything that offends them as 'woke' and then celebrating any wannabe dictator that promises to piss all over people's human rights.

Nasty is people thinking, "There’s no law against me filling the rivers with shit. If people have a problem with it, they're free to holiday in Spain instead."

So X but with more censorship, kind of like what X was when it was still called Twitter?

Pretty much. After Elon liberated X, allowing conservatives a free voice, BlueSky is the new left wing version. LOL. Competition is good! Whatever features are good on BlueSky will undoubtedly pop up on X, and vice versa. I do like the self moderation and self-filtering aspect, allowing you to put your own blinkers on. Otherwise you can get flooded with irrelevance.

Also Manu/Laurel have stopped retweeting/reXing or of what the idiot wants to call them to their followers. Which reduced eyeball counts.
