Say hi here unless we’ve regularly dmd

My wife and I made our autistic son's teacher cry at the parent-teacher conference today. We told her we both thought she was doing a fantastic job and we can see tremendous growth in our son, and much of the thanks goes to her. I think she needed to hear that. So that was nice.

That’s fantastic, she must’ve been so pleased to hear that

As a teacher I can tell you that I, in my many years of teaching, have only had two separate parents compliment me. I build relationships with all my students and we have fun while learning. So on behalf of all the teachers out there. THANK YOU!!!!

Coming from a family of teachers, I can verify that the praise is scarce and very much appreciated.

I don't know why the FB algorithm decided that I need to see post after post after post of gay and lesbian weddings, but I'm enjoying them far more than all the ads for truck parts and tactical survival gear I had been getting. Good work, algorithm!

I don't partake of FB, but sounds as though their algorithm could use some refinement. 😂 One of the big complaints I've heard is that the algorithm shows you what it wants rather than what you want. Lol

I'm much happier seeing my feed full of gay weddings than all the garbage that FB usually assumes a middle-aged American white guy likes.

Yep, that would be fine with me too!

Don't start liking it too much, though, or they'll switch to lifted trucks (aka small-dick trucks) and maga hats.

I find algorithms absolutely terrifying and fascinating in equal measure
How quickly they can send someone casually toward things they never would have looked at, and yet how unnerving they can be with suggestions if you don’t disable tracking
Make sure you remove consent for all that, socials get a shocking amount of data if you don’t

Yeah, it's pretty freaky. I'm pretty sure they get a lot even if you don't consent.

I knew someone who worked for FB, and she told me that the tracking tech is unstoppable if you use the net, or a phone. Google can individually identify most people based on their usage apparently. Of course, it's only so they can send you more useful ads *cough cough*. 🤮

Yeah of course
Yeah no doubt; and so frustrating that they have the capacity to deal with harmful content, yet say it’s too difficult. Yep - because all those resources have gone into helping advertisers shift another sweater

I worked for an advertising tech company and we would track/attribute ads that were being served to millions of different IP addresses. If the IP was a residential IP we could match it to a street address and actually connect it with all the other devices in that household. We didn’t use this for nefarious purposes but we could have easily started tracking where those devices would go and other creepy things.
How did they get the IP address data?
