I probably know more about cars than anyone you know.

Lucky you. Ask away.

If I don’t answer, dont take it personally, it just means I don’t like you.

Cheers

Definitely more than me. Would you recommend wheels up or wheels down? I've been trying wheels up for a while but it takes me a while to get anywhere...

I have an additional question. If I have run out of plutonium and am stuck in the 1950's would you recommend a lightning strike as a safe method of generating 1.21 gigawatts?

Volvo XC90 V8 mated to a V70R 6 speed manual all mounted in the back of my Fiero. I have a random hard to start, misfire when at operating temp, and occasional stalling after lifting off the accelerator at cruise. Plus the speedometer and tachometer are a little twitchy at times. Where do I start?
No idea. I lost my shit at ‘mounted in the back’…..

Looks like an ignition problem. Crank sensor maybe? Is the ECM OBD-1 or OBD-2? Oh and twitchy gauges are pretty common to FIeros.

EOBD2. Gauges are out of an Aston Martin. I wanted the reverse sweep tachometer. Aside from the main chassis and most of the body panels, there is no Fiero left. BTW, it was a crank/cam correlation error due to faulty shielding wire causing backfeed issues into the ECM.
Partially right, I didn't take into account that the engine had VVT. What year is the chassis?

I suggest you sell it on a cool day.

That volvo v8 is a grenade and the fiero was a gm parts bin chassis made from vauxhall and chev citation bits. Junk.

Good money after bad. Points for creativity.

Engine and electrics is from 2011, transmission is from 2004, and the car is from 1984.
While that wouldn't have been my choice for model years due to the suspension and weak brakes. If it's what you have then knock your socks off. I would have gone with an '88. Better brakes and suspension.

I am curios, why did you go with a Volvo power train? Most of the re-engine ones I knew about were some variant on a 3 series V-6 (3100, 3400, 3600), Some V-8 ( Northstar, LT1, SBC) mostly because they used the same bell housing as the stock transmission.

It's what I had laying around. I've done twin turbo Northstars, super/turbo 3800's, LS's, 1000 hp K series, Volvo white blocks, Ferrari V8's, etc. I've had over 100 Fieros pass through my hands, and have storage sheds full of parts.

Rusty 84's are cheap. My 84 was rusty, so it was free. Nothing left of the Fiero suspension, car is closer to a tube chassis than a fiero. Only the center section really remains.
Fair enough. I've only had 2 over the years, a lightly modified 85 and a stock 88.

What's that wing for?
Style
There's no way anyone actually needs downforce on a street legal car.
Of course not.. But it came from the factory like that.
What's more disturbing is that fart cannon on the exhaust.

I think I get it. Kind of like how drag queens (not that kind of drag, the other kind of drag) go over the top?

Now I'm just cracking myself up. No exaggeration, this particular aftermarket product is actually called the "Big Wang" (not a mis-spelling.)

Maybe I should dress my car up in a Big Wang costume to overcompensate for not being a real race car driver. All it costs is money, potentially double-digits of MPG's, and my self respect.

Here are a few clips of some "tips & pointers" from "Lance's School of Driving Techniques." Please enjoy, and remember to always drive safely!

BTW, that was Lance himself driving the yellow 911 Targa having a few spins.

My boss had an AM Vanquish convertible, wife bought it for him for his birthday. Someone dented his backend while he was at a sporting event. No parts on hand, had to be ordered from England. It took 3 months and $30K. He traded it in for a Bentley Convertible.

That’s funny about the rear engine vw’s.

I have a 911 which is a joy to drive, but it does require some skill in the corners unique to the platform to avoid getting bitten in the ass.

Likewise, I have an R53 supercharged Cooper S that’s a real giggle to bomb around in, but with slip control off you can understeeer and smoke the front tires right off it.

interesting list bnb posted; the bmw z8m or whatever its called in nice; the others are mostly cars youd never actually drive.

Lance, I will take your word on your vast, vast...VAST...knowledge of cars. I do believe, however, I might be able to give you some insights into your "virgin" status. I'm here to help. Please...seek help.
