What Are You Thinking? Continued 14

State's rights have gone too far...
The funny part there is - the state of Nevada voted to dump that years ago. But it has to be ratified by congress, which has never happened. I don’t know about other states, but we don’t want it, but aren’t allowed to get rid of it. How stupid is that?

Time zones usually make sense because the world (gasp) is round. Daylight savings time might have made sense back when we were mostly farmers but now it doesn't really serve a purpose. We have lights.
It is my understanding that farmers have always been one of the strongest lobbies against DST because it's disruptive to their animals, particularly cows, whose milking schedules are dictated by the sunlight. I believe it was originally introduced to save energy, particularly electricity, during WWI.

But I would agree that it no longer serves a purpose. (Though I can also understand how places like Seattle wouldn't want to wait until 9AM to see daylight in the middle of winter. Western edges of time zones stay darker until later in the morning.)

Except it never had anything to with farmers, it was to save money on candle wax for city folks. Farmers get up before the Sun regardless of the clock
