The world’s wealthiest man appears to believe that a Donald Trump presidency must crash the economy in order to benefit Americans.

Elon Musk agreed on Tuesday that proposed drastic cuts to the federal government, coupled with Trump’s sweeping deportations, will likely cause global markets to “tumble.”

Last week, Musk said during a virtual town hall that Americans will experience a “temporary hardship” for “long-term prosperity.”

“We have to reduce spending to live within our means,” said Musk, who has pitched himself as the director of a new “Office of Government Efficiency” under a second Trump administration.

He claimed on Friday that he would “balance the budget immediately,” adding that “a lot of people who are taking advantage of government are going to be upset about that” and that he will “probably need a lot of security, but it’s got to be done.”

Again, cut or decline government subsidies given to space x and Tesla first elon and then we can talk.

Drastic cuts in government size and spending is a very good thing. Big government is a corrupt and wasteful organization that grows very fat off of robbing the people of their hard earned resources.

Musk taking a Twitter like action and firing 80% of government would be a dream come true.

It’s so much more involved than that…

Elon apparently believes that society / civilization will survive a "temporary" global market / economic collapse.

Notice there is no timeframe for how "temporary" that global market / economic collapse will be.

Of course, Elon will survive…with the insulating benefit of “a lot of security” to protect him, and with the insulating benefit of his personal wealth and property to make the entire process perfectly tolerable…for Elon.

Government is NOT some kind of parasitic growth on the private sector. There is no function it does we would we better off without, and none the private sector could do better.

Exactly!
The ‘temporary hardship’ is never to the wealthy ruling class.

🙄

Elon’s actions DESTROYED Twitter.

“The social media platform formerly known as Twitter is worth almost 80% less than two years ago when Elon Musk bought it, according to estimates from investment giant Fidelity.Oct 2, 2024”

In another thread this fool would be extolling republicans to run the government like a business. trump is a failure and musk has ruined twitter unless you’re a racist Nazi nationalist who now has a home outside of Storm Front.

There would be nothing temporary about the resulting economic crash if 20 million workers are deported and Trump’s bigly tariffs start a global trade war.

Worker shortage? That means wages will have to go up to compensate. I thought wages going up was a good thing?
and Trump’s bigly tariffs start a global trade war.
Tariffs are just taxes on big corporations and businesses trying to sell their products to your country. I thought taxing the big corporations and businesses was a good thing?

That's precisely what government is, a parasitic growth on the body politic.

Try to make your brain function. A worker shortage of 20 million people would have an enormous impact on the economy.

Tariffs aren’t taxes on the corporations exporting stuff into our country. Tariffs end up being paid by the consumers who buy the imported products.

And a trade war will slash our exports. The US is the second largest exporter nation in the world.

There are certain indespensible functions a government must perform, however, in order for society to function, and you can still have a government perform these functions without going full Cuban/Chinese style socialism. The thing is, there is a balance. Too little, and society cannot effectively function and no, you cannot expect private enterprise to pick up the slack.

And as for "Small government-" ironically most "Small government" conservangelists seem to actually want MORE government monitoring people's personal lives and personal choices.

Large(r) government largely exists because big business failed to govern itself - American history is littered with examples of downright evil big business practices that destroyed lives and the environment.

But let’s trust DonOld and “Leon”…

Next time you hear a pol promise to solve the deficit problem by eliminating waste, ask if he intends to solve energy problems by eliminating friction.

NEWSFLASH!
The economy (Fiat $$$, created out of thin air, backed by fuckall²) WILL collapse, with or without DJT...
$35T in debt, $220T in "Unfunded Liabilities"...
Prepare wisely.

I did not know that Elon was an economist too!

I guess then, that made Barnum one...

We did recover nicely from his last disaster, so it couldn't have been that bad.

A disaster is, you know, titanic, as in still sitting on the bottom...

There is that.^^^^

We cannot even service the debt interest and I have already pointed out that we are in a death spiral.

Out of the ashes, I want a phoenix to arise, Fairfax.org...

Overall, the CBO forecasts that roughly 75% of the federal deficit’s increase will be due to interest costs by 2034.

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/u-s-debt-interest-payments-reach-1-trillion/

We are in a death spiral when we are talking about only paying down interest on debt while accruing more institutionalized and codified future debt.

If you want to pick on this minor point, then you win, right now, in the moment.
But, when you step back and look at the trajectory of the debt
and look at it without regard to your team and the score
we are spiraling out of control and Harris has no plan.
Trump did okay as President economically.
Then China attacked us and he
responded adroitly.

I doubt Harris would.
But I'm not voting for him either.
I am still voting for an idea, an old idea, a dream, a vision, that was in our hands and still in our grasp,
and neither one of these two are going to remove os from the mire, but at least the one will not blindly lead us out into the mire and the muck.
Her economics are the Socialist economics of "fair."
Fair is how you describe the fish that has only rotted around the eyes...

What a mess. What a complete mess masquerading as some sort of intellectual thought and then you continue in mediocrity by nailing the dismount with a call for the bullshit FairTax. You could’ve spared us all this by encouraging us all to drink Brawndo.
