Shall we play a game?
Government economic results are typically released on Friday, with a few exceptions.
Let's see who can find the most cherry-picked "doom 'n gloom" economic results shitposts from now until the election is certified!

The folks below scour economic news diligently to find the proverbial "black lining in a silver cloud" ;)
Let's reward them for their obsession in trying to convince the posters here that the United States economy IS the dystopian hellscape that the Republican party repleatedly claims it is!

Simply quote the "usual suspect" below from ANY economic thread and give yourself points as follows:

BONUS POINTS!
  • Announcing a single month's data point as "evidence" of a turning point downward spiral trend: 1 point
  • Dismissing government number "fake news" 2 points
  • Random date comparison multiplier: Comparing result to any arbitrary date in the past other than previous month or year ("Yes, but on May 14th, 2024.." : 2 points
  • Ancient News multiplier: Attempt to compare announced result to anything other than previous month or year ("but...but...2019!"): 2 points
  • Intellectual Dishonesty "Apples To Oranges" SUPER BONUS: Comparing one month or year to multiyear cumulative totals (i.e this month's single data point oil price increase % to combined past 3 years of cumulative oil prices): 5 points

Weekly Jobless Claims Surge to 14-Month High as Hurricane Helene Fallout Begins

North Carolina and Florida registered, respectively, 11,475 and 9,377 initial jobless claims.

Weekly unemployment claims climbed to their highest level in more than a year as the economy began to feel the economic fallout of Hurricane Helene.

For the week ending on Oct. 5, initial jobless claims surged by 33,000 to 258,000, the highest number since the beginning of August 2023, according to new Department of Labor data.

The reading topped the consensus estimate of 230,000.

The fallout of Hurricane Helene could have fueled some of the higher-than-expected claims, as sizable increases were observed in Florida (9,377) and North Carolina (11,475). Other storm-affected states also registered higher claims, including Kentucky (3,426), Tennessee (4,367), and Virginia (3,089).

Still, there were significant gains in California (43,072), Texas (14,765), New York (12,658), Pennsylvania (9,772), and Ohio (9,546).

So you're saying areas that were wiped out completely are no longer working?

Is this another "Democrats are targeting hurricanes at people" post?

As Inflation Rears Its Ugly Head Again, Election-Meddling Media Go To Bat For Biden-Harris

Harris is proud of her economic track record, even though it has forced the price hikes Americans strongly oppose.

ess than one month before Election Day, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ published data confirms that the consequences of Democrats’ disastrous economic policies have continued to plague Americans.

Democrats and their corporate media and economic “expert” allies preemptively claimed inflation would “return to normal” just in time for the 2024 face-off. Shortly after the July 2024 consumer price index was released, former Deputy Director of the National Economic Council Bharat Ramamurti even went so far as to declare that “We’ve won the battle against inflation.”

The 2.4 percent price hike Americans suffered from September 2023 to the same month this year, however, was “a little hotter than anticipated.”

Consumers specifically paid more for food at home (1.3 percent), food away from home (3.9 percent), electricity (3.7 percent), shelter (4.9 percent), and transportation (8.5 percent) last month than they did the year prior. Overall, essential goods and services are more than 20 percent more expensive now than they were when President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office in January 2021.

Yeah, not sure what that qualifies as, but it's certainly qualifies as some kind of fatuous doom and gloom post. Golly, a hurricane caused an increase in jobless claims! But I'm sure Trump still gets a pass for losing all those jobs during COVID. 🙄

You really need to have someone read your links to you, Jack. It's just sad at this point.

This comment is a good example of economic disinformation because the inflation rate (CPI) in September was 2.4%, a decrease from 2.5% in August.

Good job exposing economic disinformation, RightGuide. 👍

Look, prices are still kind of rough in areas, because of the supply chain, geography, the strength of local economies, diesel prices in certain areas, gasoline prices in certain areas, etc. They are still higher where I am compared to where I would like them, but they are also significantly lower than they were two years. Let me give you an example of an item that has dropped in price: eggs.

https://www.walmart.com/browse/food/eggs-60-count/976759_9176907_1001469_6040506

Roughly two years ago, those same eggs were almost 26 dollars for the same quantity. So, yes, it's still a bit pricier than it was pre-pandemic, but it's roughly half of what it cost two years ago. That is significant progress in lowering food costs in at least that instance.

Just remember, things will be a lot more expensive if the extreme, prohibitive levels of tariffs that Trump proposed become public policy/legislation.
