US born and raisedI would be lying, Rafe, if your state didn’t contribute to my assumption. Isn’t that terrible!!! I can’t believe I stereotyped like that
Why so, Boat? Assume you’re British?
So why the reference to London?US born and raised
not terrible at all, innocent mistake. as long as we can all be cordial i think it will be fine. i just didnt want to get into a political war in the public threads. like i said, politics is one of my triggers, so if that happens ill just excuse myself.I would be lying, Rafe, if your state didn’t contribute to my assumption. Drug possession, prostitution, speeding, tax evasion etcThat’s interesting… name a genuinely victimless crime?
i think i understand the premise, my only issue is that personal responsibility assumes that all people will show the same level of care and imo we know that not to be true. speed limits exist for example because your actions and interests have the potential to be in direct conflict with mine and without showing the same level of responsibility and care accidents happen whether they are intentional or avoidable or not.Drug possession, prostitution, speeding, tax evasion etc
The UCC... Uniform Commercial Code...So why the reference to London?
But isn’t that a positive? That we have a better understanding of human nature, equality etc and rights have increased for all as a result? When people today consider "rights" they're usually looking at it through today's point of view, through the lens of a broken system... IOW, the pyramid has been turned upside down.
Speeding is only victimless until it isn’t; hence the need to control speedDrug possession, prostitution, speeding, tax evasion etc
True, how about the seat belt tickets I've received, with no vehicles within a quarter mile of me, other than the "highwayman" lurking in the grass?i think i understand the premise, my only issue is that personal responsibility assumes that all people will show the same level of care and imo we know that not to be true. speed limits exist for example because your actions and interests have the potential to be in direct conflict with mine and without showing the same level of responsibility and care accidents happen whether they are intentional or avoidable or not.
Again; protecting you from your carelessnessTrue, how about the seat belt tickets I've received, with no vehicles within a quarter mile of me, other than the "highwayman" lurking in the grass?
Which is ultimately what even a seatbelt law does - defends others from the aboveIn a true republic, each individual is supposed to be at the very TOP of the pyramid... the sole purpose of Govt is to DEFEND your rights, if they're infringed upon by someone with more power, money, guns etc.
When you are at the top of the pyramid, you have full rights to do ANYTHING you choose, if it doesn't physically harm someone else, or "steal" their property... our rights are being diminished daily. But isn’t that a positive? That we have a better understanding of human nature, equality etc and rights have increased for all as a result?
Speeding is only victimless until it isn’t; hence the need to control speed
Possession - yes except it would provide a cover for dealers
Prostitution - usually the victim is actually the sex worker. Should be dealt with differently but not as simple as saying just let it alone

ok, fair example, but what happens if you get in an accident that unfortunately leads to your death. in this scenario who is responsible for the expenses incurred by any damage, by the removal and disposal of the vehicle, the removal and disposition of your remains? your family? again pointing to personal responsibility and care. if you are unwilling to accept a minimum standard of care for yourself for the betterment of your fellow man than its the job of the government to set and protect those standards in the interest of all persons. thats the real job of the government. now practically especially under the current system government overreach exists everywhere.True, how about the seat belt tickets I've received, with no vehicles within a quarter mile of me, other than the "highwayman" lurking in the grass?
I don't want to be protected from myself. I am my own "first responder" as I should be.Again; protecting you from your carelessness
And even if you want the right to be reckless, the potential victims are in the ripple effect - people who care about you; the other drivers; the emt taken from elsewhere; the people delayed and unable to get where they’re going

But as I and Rafe have pointed out - if you fail in that, the ramifications for others are seriousI don't want to be protected from myself. I am my own "first responder" as I should be.
Agreed, hence my examples being more extreme.ok, fair example, but what happens if you get in an accident that unfortunately leads to your death. in this scenario who is responsible for the expenses incurred by any damage, by the removal and disposal of the vehicle, the removal and disposition of your remains? your family? again pointing to personal responsibility and care. if you are unwilling to accept a minimum standard of care for yourself for the betterment of your fellow man than its the job of the government to set and protect those standards in the interest of all persons. thats the real job of the government. now practically especially under the current system government overreach exists everywhere.
But if someone can’t be assed to wear a seatbelt and crash, they steal tax dollars from me in the response to the consequences, they steal my time and stress while I sit in the vehicle behind, watching what’s happenedWhen you are at the top of the pyramid, you have full rights to do ANYTHING you choose, if it doesn't physically harm someone else, or "steal" their property... our rights are being diminished daily.

As Chief Engineer on a small ship, it isn't the man who paid $21 million to build it, who says I can operate it for him, instead, it's a beaurocrat in Virginia...But as I and Rafe have pointed out - if you fail in that, the ramifications for others are serious
Tax dollars = Forced association...But if someone can’t be assed to wear a seatbelt and crash, they steal tax dollars from me in the response to the consequences, they steal my time and stress while I sit in the vehicle behind, watching what’s happened
Because if I built a ship on the basis I wanna, it would be a hazard, (unintentionally lol). A poorly designed ship would pose a risk to others physically and financiallyAs Chief Engineer on a small ship, it isn't the man who paid $21 million to build it, who says I can operate it for him, instead, it's a beaurocrat in Virginia...
