They were already proven to be lies. The woman reported on was an American from Canton, OH.

An aging spinster hardcore MAGA Trump supporter named Anna Kilgore noticed her beloved longtime companion cat "Miss Sassy" went missing for several days in late August. She notified the police of her cat's strange disappearance, as old people often do. She said that she suspected her new neighbor, a colored Haitian immigrant who had recently moved in down the street, had killed, cooked and eaten Miss Sassy, because "everyone knows" thats what colored Haitian immigrants do in America. The police investigated but found no evidence.

Unfortunately, this slice-of-life drama ended up being posted on one of the fringe elements of the internet, so naturally it popped up on the news feed of Donald J Trump, who lives for controversy like this one to drive up the moral outrage level of his uneducated base demographic.

Much Sturm und Drang ensued, especially when a cornered Trump desperately brought this "fact" up in the presidential debate he recently lost to Vice President Kamala Harris.

The effect was immediate: weaksauce Republican vice presidential hopeful JD Vance began routinely inserting the "Haitians Eat Pets" anecdote into his stump speeches, and Rightguide's waking hours were consumed with him documenting every single Haitian custom and anecdote he could find to bolster the failing narrative.

Meanwhile, back in Springfield....

A Wall Street Journal reporter obtained a copy of Anna Kilgore's police report and was dispatched to Springfield, Ohio. He knocked on Anna Kilgore's front door, and was greeted by Ms. Kilgore wearing a stained Trump t-shirt and smelling of urine.....and holding Miss Sassy. Miss Sassy was alive and well!

"Oh it was just a big misunderstanding!" she said, when questioned. She'd "accidently" locked poor Miss Sassy down in her basement for a few days (locking prisoners in a basement is something of a rite of passage these days for MAGA, who manage to decode the "Hannibal Lecter" dogwhistle from their leader).
