Monday, September 30th will be here in 11 days. What's that you say? What's important about that date? The government shutdown that's what! They kicked the can down the road back at the first of the year to give themselves time to come up with an acceptable bill to keep the government running. Guess what? They just voted down the bill, their own bill, that was supposed to keep the lights on.

A show of hands, did ANYONE really think they were going to get serious and do their fucking job???

House Republicans on Wednesday defeated their own plan to avert a government shutdown at the end of the month, with the party divided over the length of a short-term funding bill and what, if anything, should be attached to it. It was an embarrassing blow to Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who had yanked the same funding package off the floor last week amid growing GOP defections, only to watch it collapse on Wednesday in a vote that seemed doomed from the start.

I really hope it shuts down.

Trump is demanding it does so, and that could ultimately threaten the Republican majority in the house.

Or, the Republicans keep it open, and put another little nail in Trump's election coffin.

Trump insisted on a mere two additions to the so-called "clean" spending bills.
The first was including the legislation passed by the House prohibiting non-citizens from voting (which was a "show bill", since there was already federal legislation in place prohbiting that.

The other bill would be to provide any presidential candidates who polled above 40% in public polls to have Secret Service protection "at a level of that provided to both the President and Vice President of the United States".

Guess he had some empty rooms to fill in the Mar-a-lago off-season that could be offset by charging rack-room rates to the Secret Service (like he did 2016-2020).

Cue the usual suspects somehow blaming Nancy Pelosi for everything in 5...4...3...2...
