This is weirdly niche, but I keep running across stories featuring photographers, or even just people using cameras, and a lot of them have problems with terminology, technique, weird photo- (or video-) specific quirks.

So if you're writing a story that involves people using cameras and you want some help. Drop me a line, either in this thread or PM, and I'll be happy to take a look.

I have ... a lot of experience in that area (not that kind, get your mind out of the gutter).

Where were you back in May when I was researching like a lunatic for my photographer character in my race car romance? : P

I enjoy photography. I have voyeuristic leanings and have dabbled in erotic photography with some women I've known--closet exhibitionists, of sorts. Those experiences partly inspired me to write some of my voyeur-exhibitionist stories, like Photoshoot for Bobby's Fiance, Unwitting Porn Star Wife, and Exposing Lisa. But I'm strictly amateur, and I've never been much of a techie. I deal with--or perhaps more accurately, avoid dealing with--too many technical aspects in these stories by writing from the point of view of people like me who aren't experts and who, if they wrote an erotic story, wouldn't be expected to master all the lingo and techniques in their narration. It might be chickening out a bit, but it's consistent with a "write what you know" philosophy.

But if you're interested, I'd be delighted to have you read one of the stories and share your thoughts about how I could have improved it with a better grasp on the equipment and techniques and command of the terminology.

OMG I just started reading it. It's literally the story that prompted me to make this thread.

BUT so far you're doing good (I'm still on page 1).

You want camera talk? Wait until chapter 2. ;)

I think I did pretty well with the cameras themselves, but I purposely avoided lens talk because that was just a whole other level of research. I'd certainly love to know how accurate I was, and if I f'd up major anywhere please don't be afraid to tell me. No sugar coating required here.

I'm writing a story involving Daguerreotypes. Speaking of "niche" ....

If you like, I'll shoot you a PM when I get there. Ironically, I have a shoot tomorrow, so I won't have much reading time.

I think it's often better to keep it high-level, because (on average) readers aren't going to have in-depth technical knowledge anyway, and it might pull them out of the story.

I'll take a look at your stuff! :)

If you haven't read it, I recommend reading https://www.literotica.com/s/snap-shot by M.Millswan. It might be my favorite Literotica story about a boy, a girl, and a camera.

This story takes place around 1855. Did albumen prints exist then?
Wiki:

The albumen print, also called albumen silver print, is a method of producing a photographic print using egg whites. Published in January 1847 by Louis Désiré Blanquart-Evrard, it was the first commercial process of producing a photo on a paper base from a negative. Previous methods - such as the daguerreotype and the tintype - had been printed on metal. It became the dominant form of photographic positives from 1855 to the start of the 20th century, with a peak in the 1860–90 period.

The story actually only shows the plate being exposed, not printed, so it is maybe immaterial for this specific case.

So, I have a third draft of the story I mentioned in this thread. Are you really willing to check the photography part for accuracy?

Thanks.

I wrote a story where the brother was using a Canon to take pictures of his sister, but several times either I typed, or spellcheck changed it to, Cannon and I caught a few during edited but missed a few and several readers called it out. Story still did very well, but its one of those annoying things that aren't worth submitting an edited version but grates on me.

I see that one all the time, makes me nutty! Agreed that it isn't worth submitting edits though.

FWIW, I write in plaintext with autocorrect turned off. I'll manually run a spellcheck, but that's about it. (I basically just have autocorrect disabled on all my devices.)

There were two cameras involved. The other was a Nikon, should have just made them both from the same company.
