Do you own your body?

Well... do you?

Some people do and others do not. Aside from the abortion argument, you can make a case that people with severe disabilities or even the elderly do not. People who cannot care for themselves and are put in institutional care essentially do not. They have lost autonomy, or maybe never even had it. Decisions are made for them as to when they’ll shower, when do they will go to bed, when and what they eat. Medical decisions are made for them.

In that regard, many of us, whether male or female can eventually lose ownership of our bodies if we have to rely on an institution for our health care

So... we're comparing women to the disabled, elderly and infirm...?

Just checking.

Yeah, a dead person doesn’t have ownership of their body either.

😑

Pedants deserve a special place in hell.

Heh, actually a dead person has more control over how their organs are used than a woman in America. A corpse's organs can only be used to preserve and sustain another's life if the person gave explicit permission to do so while still alive.

How fucked up is that?!?!

DeSantis is going to extreme lengths to try to get abortion off the ballot in Florida.

Floridians unnerved by police visits about abortion petition signatures

The officer’s visit appears to be part of a broad — and unusual — effort by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration to inspect thousands of already verified and validated petitions for Amendment 4 in the final two months before Election Day. The amendment would overturn Florida’s six-week abortion ban by proposing to protect abortion access in Florida until viability. Since last week, DeSantis’ secretary of state has ordered elections supervisors in at least four counties to send to Tallahassee at least 36,000 petition forms already deemed to have been signed by real people. Since the Times first reported on this effort, Alachua and Broward counties have confirmed they also received requests from the state. One 16-year supervisor said the request was unprecedented. The state did not ask for rejected petitions, which have been the basis for past fraud cases.

PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona’s Civil War-era ban on nearly all abortions officially is being repealed Saturday.

The western swing state has been whipsawed over recent months, starting with the Arizona Supreme Court deciding in April to let the state enforce the long-dormant 1864 law that criminalized all abortions except when a woman’s life was jeopardized. Then state lawmakers voted on a bill to repeal that law once and for all.
With the territorial ban no longer in play, Arizona law allows abortions until 15 weeks. After that, there is an exception to save the life of the mother, but missing are exceptions for cases of rape or incest after the 15-week mark.

Arizona requires those seeking an abortion prior to the 15-week mark to have an ultrasound at least 24 hours before the procedure
