What does “following” mean

I have gotten notifications that several people are following me. 2 questions: Do they then get an alert or notice when I post? Also, is there a way that I can pull up a list of those following me?

If the answer is no to both of those questions, what is the value or purpose of “following”someone? Thanks!

no idea whether they get an alert when you post. probably not as I don't seem to get them.
but you can see your followers and who you follow from your member profile page.

Mmmmm? On my member profile page, when I click on “following,” it shows up the one person I clicked to follow many months ago (actually had forgotten I did), but I do not see any listing or area to click to see a list of those following me (I know some are as I’ve received several notifications in the last several days). Remain confident.

I have followers but they are lazy followers lol. Probably the best kind to have really!

Or that I'm probably checking out your behind. Hard to do if you're leading

When I get a new following notice. I look at the persons posts. Most of the time we have things in common. I have made a few good chat friends by them following me.

You can have followers forum side or story side. If they're following you on the forum, they get a notification every time you post something - the bell icon, top right.

If they follow you on the story side they get a notification every time you publish a new story or update your profile page.

If you're a writer, you want followers.

Thank you for responding, but something must be wrong with my account, then. I have never received a notice (the bell) for anything the one person Imam following is posting. I do have 19 stories, and when I go to the stories section, I can see when someone has started following me, just as (in both sections, forum and stories) I see if I get a “like.”

However, one of the unanswered questions from my original post is whether there is a way to see a list of those following me, or even a number of how many are following? Anybody know? Thanks! NancyPan

Go to your My Home page (click your avatar at top right of the window, then "My Home"). Click on "Following" in the left-side navigation menu. Now, at the top of the window, click on the "My Followers" tab.

Thank you. I have done this and just did it again. It shows that I have 371 followers, but does not list them. In contrast, when I click on “Following,” it does show the one brilliant and wonderful Woman that I clicked to follow some time ago, but I’ve never received an alert when she’s posted.

That's a bug, then. You clicked on the words "My Followers" next to "Following" and saw nothing?

To clarify, in the stories section, I have a line that says “Followers,” but still lists no names. In the forum section, I have only “Following” and “Ignoring” with one name in each (which is accurate. I have received multiple alerts that various people have started following me on the forum. My stories profile says I have 371 followers. Thanks. Yeah, maybe a bug :-(.

Did you click on that My Followers tab there? Had you clicked on "Following" on the left as shown in the screen capture?

I'm curious about the subtleties of the forum. I am not an author here. I chat a lot.

I know one person followed me because I brought and posted a lot of knowledge in a chat room one day. I get this as it was a guy who wanted to confirm some things with me and get some new perspective.

There was also a woman that was following me. Her profile had a nice a poem she wrote and an interesting description. I've never spoken with her. Perhaps she observed me in chat and liked what I said, or maybe some post on here? I just don't know if that's some kind of reserved way of her saying, hey come look me over. You know?

If she's a chat only person but I PM'd her here, I don't think she'd ever realize I'd sent a message on the forum. Otherwise if she is a chat person it would be pure chance I run into her in the future where I could message her, the only other option is to direct message her which Lit then relays to the email on file. Way overthinking I'm sure, but I'd hate to miss out on someone who may be interested. Ugh.
