Fifties is awesome. You start to mature (they tell me that, but it’s only physical), you know yourself really well (you know what to put up with and when to tell people to shut the fuck up equally, I became very time oriented, and very mission focused.

It became important to get things done.

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about hitting my 50s, it’s that my perception of time has narrowed and I’m very very conscious of time.

I actually have a group of friends who call me Annie Oakley. I can shoot with both hands pretty well, I could carry my own gear, just not far , I can play volleyball, does that count?

Thanks for asking. Really. This year, I have acquired 3 WW2-era M1 rifles. Two of them were made in December of 1943 and the other one was made in April of 1940. All of them could have seen combat. All have been gone through (what I did on my summer vacation) and one was reconditioned with a new barrel.


I'm really looking forward to this.

A cousin of mine has a machinist as a husband. He built a moving target range in his back yard. He also collects guns. I'm terrible with names of anything/anyone, so don't ask me what kind but he had acquired an old hand gun and the ammunition was obsolete and wasn't produced anymore. He cleaned it up and used his shop to make his own ammunition for it. He also built my cousin her own sniper rifle. She is a better shot than I am. I felt like I was in a gun museum the last time I was there. The range was a blast though.

My nickname came about because I had to shoot a rifle left handed when my ex and all his officer friends were shooting. I forgot to switch my closed eye , missed my first shot then compensated and hit it the second shot. I kept saying "Something doesn't feel right" My friend noticed I had the wrong eye shut and flipped his lid that I was able to compensate like that. I haven't been shooting in a while.

I didn't mean to go off on a gun tangent and threadhog.

Several of us shoot. My deal is usually rifles, but I have handguns and shotties, too. An alligator snapping turtle got in the yard and the big boy Lab cornered it and let us know, so Wat got the 12-gauge with #4 buckshot and center-punched it. Those things could hurt the dogs.


Anyway, off to bed. I'll read for a bit.
