Asides from the films:

Various folks, including Biden, are praising the dead man for leaping on his family to save them. Isn't this going a bit far? Wasn't he immediately hit and just fell on them, dead? Shouldn't tributes of heroics be reserved to actual heroic acts? Coming a Trump event hours early so you can sit in the bleachers behind him--and bringing your family as well--isn't really an heroic act.

Will be interested in seeing how this affects campaigning. Will there be any more rallies? Outside? Inside? Will we see bleachers of spectators sitting behind the speaker (both campaigns are doing this)? Will people even turn out much for campaign events anymore? Will they bring their children?

Will the Republicans say anything about civilian access to assault rifles? Will they lament a third-grade classroom of children as much as a clipped ear? (Sorry, couldn't resist. Good questions to keep asking Trumpers and other Republicans, though, I think).

On Secret Service coverage, keep in mind that staffing has to cover the setup of the Republican convention on Monday as well as current and past presidential protection coverage.

I suspected we'll see a larger security detail for Trump, as well as more attention to venues. The House is going to haul them over the coals over this one. Doesn't look great on Cheatle's resume either. Who'd want to hire someone who almost carried the can for Trump being taken down - and in all honesty, he's a much more likely target than Biden ever was or will be. At this point, up until that shot at Trump, the only people who would benefit from Biden being taken out would be Harris and the Democratic Party, who HAD a quandary on their hands. Not now tho. Biden's done like a dingo's dinner.

Trump being Trump, we'll still see the large outdoor rallies but maybe with more attention to detail and I'd suspect bullet proof screens, altho I can't see Trump liking that. As for attendees, well, that man's a genuine hero now. We've all seen how he reacts under fire and you don't feign that one. The guy's gangsta' - he's going to be swarmed.

As for civilian access and classrooms, nothing there will change.

When does a “candidate” become eligible for secret service protection? As soon as they declare? Once they have been officially named as a major party candidate?

Bozo the Clown ‘declared’ his candidacy in many elections. Did he receive an SS protection detail? I doubt it. Again, what is the precedent?

Trump is a former president, so the SS already needs to be protecting him, but to what extent? What are the protocols for allocating public funds and resources?

If Trump flies his private jet to Scotland, does the Air Force provide escort fighter jets? What if some foreign entity has threatened to shoot him out of the sky? Do the protocols change?

Trump has not declared his VP yet. Has an SS detail already been sent to protect this unnamed person? Has Trump actually been officially named as the Republican nominee, or will that only be official after the convention? Will there be a different elevated protection protocol after it becomes official?
