Biden doesn’t give 90 minute + teleprompter-free extemporaneous speeches to audiences often numbering tens of thousands. He does fewer events, heavily scripted, in small venues such has high school gyms. So the risk of ever needing to pull off the heroics that Trump and the secret service did is much lower.

Former President Donald Trump says he was shot in the ear after a gunman opened fire towards the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday -- a harrowing incident that left one spectator dead, two others critically injured and sparked chaos at the event.

Officials briefed on the investigation told ABC News that the shooting -- a chilling development on the eve of the Republican National Convention -- was being investigated as a possible assassination attempt and that live rounds were apparently fired from outside the security perimeter. It is being investigated by the FBI overseen by the Justice Department’s National Security Division as well as the U.S. attorney's office in Pittsburgh and comes amid a heightened threat environment.

The Secret Service, in a statement, said that a shooter "fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue" after which agents "neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased."

The shooter fired as many as eight rounds from an AR-style rifle while perched on a rooftop adjacent to the venue and was 200-300 yards away at the time of the shooting, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

One could argue that Trump being murdered would cower/silence the American far-right for a little while, if it happened in such a way that other would-be leader feared that a similar fate might befall them. Something like that happened happened off and on with Italian neo-fascists, and the Israeli far-right stayed pretty quiet for a time after Meir Kahane was bumped off. Systematic direct action does work, sometimes.

The Secret Service and local police let a guy climb up on a roof with a rifle only 150 yards from Trump? THAT is a huge failure. Apparently people pointed the guy out to police and secret service before he shot and they still did nothing. Trump needs his own security, loyal and responsible to him and him alone. The Secret Service and DHS obviously cannot be trusted to do the job.

And when they were taking trump off stage, the uselessness of the female agents was apparent. That one woman there blocking bullets was so short his head was totally exposed.

She was with an inch of allowing the assassination of the USA's next President, and sparking of a Civil War. DEI put the life of the leader of the free world (Trump, not Biden) at risk.
