In Canada you need to show your PAL to buy a gun. To get your PAL you need to take a course, 8 - 12 hrs, depending on if you want your restricted license or not, then the RCMP do a background check. Once you have your PAL you just show it to buy a gun. I have bought 2 new guns in the last 2 months and have my eye on another. It takes as long to buy a gun as it does to buy beer, I don't drink though.
