Just wanted to plug my new story series, Always and Forever You.

https://www.literotica.com/authors/JordynsCanvas/works/stories

Rosa and Lily have been best friends since the fourth grade. Through great happiness and pain over the years, their bond became so strong they could read each other's thoughts. Alone and away together for the first time during their college years, the two friends discovered there was more to this bond than they ever realized. Encouraged on by new friends and experiences on this journey, Rosa and Lily come to terms with the evolution of their love beyond what they'd ever before considered.

I hope people will enjoy this series and characters. I've certainly fallen in love with both of them. Appreciate all who will take the time to read. There are a few more chapters still to be posted.

I've been posting stories on Literotica for over 20 years, under different usernames, mainly because over the years I've lost old email addresses and passwords. All of my other stories are linked in my favorites on my profile.

Why did you put it in Romance by the way?

(That's not a criticism. I'm just curious about your thought process. I write exclusively Lesbian Romance stories, and it's always irked me a little that Romance seems to be exclusively for hetero romances.)

I was just worried that I put it in “Lesbian Sex” people would be expecting more graphic sex in each chapter. Overall I thought this was more a story about a deep and intense love, than it was about sex. The most recent chapter (still pending) post is classified under “Lesbian Sex” because the whole chapter is basically the physical lovemaking. You make an interesting point and I hope I didn’t misjudge and potentially lose readers because of where I posted it.

Thanks for the heads up about the signature I will get that fixed.

Not in the slightest. You can get away with having very little/no sex in Lesbian Sex stories, especially early chapters of longer series. Check out Bi_Cathy's I'd go gay for you (100k+ views, ranked 4.66) or the first chapter of JCMcNeilly's Nanny Sarah (300k+ views, ranked 4.83) or, indeed, my own Love is the Place (10k+ views, ranked 4.90) for stories that have no sex but have been well received by the readership.

Do you think I’ve messed up then putting it in Romance? Are visitors to that section only looking for BG stories? The next chapter will be under “Lesbian Sex.” I submitted it last night.

I'm not an expert. In many ways I admire you putting it in Romance. I kind of wish I (and other writers) had the guts to put Lesbian Romance in that section, to help continue to normalise same sex relationships.

Read them all. Really liked them. I think it is bizzarre that they have the ratings they do, as the writing is far better than that and the central characters very endearing. I can only conclude that the Romance readers who have seen it so far have objected to the queer characters. I mean, part 2 having a ranking of 4.67 because she gives a guy a handjob, versus part 3 which has a ranking of 3, which basically involves them ogling lots of women, kind of tells a story, doesn't it?

My other thought was I was unsure of the prologue. I like it in it's own right BUT it's basically a spoiler as it casts the rest of the stories as a flashback and we get the clear sense that they aren't together.

However, I suppose if we weren't warned by the prologue that they aren't together it might just be too much of an unbearable shock when that becomes clear later.

Ok, ll give it a read

As said above, Lesbian Sex is very romance-friendly and readers will be fine with low-sex stories if the story is strong enough.

I would generally recommend posting all chapters of a story to the same category, whichever category you choose. If you split it across LS and Romance, people who read the first chapters may not see later chapters in a different category, and people who see the later chapters in a different category probably won't click because they've missed the earlier ones.

Lesbian romance is uncommon in Romance but it can do well there. I posted my story "Loss Function" in Romance, partly for the reasons @THBGato mentioned, and it's one of my highest-scoring stories despite one "this isn't Romance, should be in Lesbian" comment.

thats a good point. Damn. I already submitted this next chapter under the other category. It hasn’t been posted yet. Is there a way to undo it?

I haven't had time to read closely, only skimmed, but I noticed significant non-monogamy themes and I think that will hurt it in Romance more than the lesbian aspects. (Gay male would be another matter.) From my skimming, the bit in #2 felt a bit more "I tried fooling around with guys but realised I was more interested in Lily" but #3 was more just finding other women attractive, feeling like it might be headed towards a group scene, and that might be part of the difference.

Not that Romance readership is entirely devoid of lesbophobia, it's not, but the monogamy expectations are strong.

I truly appreciate you reading it and your feedback. I’m happy you are enjoying it so far.

Yes. You can edit it. It'll send you to the back of the queue and take a bit longer to post.

That said, I think you would find more of a readership for this series in Lesbian Sex, especially as a new author (under that username).

Correct me if I'm wrong @Bramblethorn but I imagine you already had a significant following by the time you published Lost Function? So, your followers would probably have read it and their votes would have mitigated any disgruntled Romance readers voting it down?

If it hasn't been posted, you should be able to cancel the submission (not sure of exact sequence, it's been a while) and resubmit to a different category. If it is headed towards Lily and Rose exploring attraction to other people though, that may do better in LS than Romance; I made my earlier comments before checking the story content.

Do the moderators allow you to change the category some way?

You can. You can submit a story edit and request (in the notes to admin) a move of category. I've not tried this myself, but I've heard this means you retain votes and comments, but you don't appear on the new lists again.

Thank you. I’m going to see how the next chapter does in Lesbian Sex and decide from there. I appreciate both you and Bramblethorn.

That would likely have been a factor, and from the comments I can see some familiar faces from Lesbian, but I don't think it would've been enough to save it if the Romance regulars had savaged it.

My previous story before Loss Function was chapter 12 (final) of Anjali's Red Scarf, posted in Lesbian. Those two stories have very similar stats: score 4.89 for Red Scarf vs. 4.88 for Loss Function, 317 vs. 295 votes, 14.8k vs. 17.5k views.

My experience has been that most readers don't explore much between categories. When I post a new story in Lesbian, I see a bump in my views on previous Lesbian stories; when I posted "Copper Coin" in F/SF (a lesbian romance with fantasy aspects) the bump for my Lesbian stories was much smaller.

But supposing even half the people who voted on Red Scarf came across to Romance (I would be surprised if it were that high), and every one of those people gave Loss Function a 5* vote. Given those numbers, it'd be getting about 140 votes from other readers and would need to have scored about a 4.74 from those readers. So I don't think Romance folk were slamming it en masse.

Correct on all three points.

I posted my story "Loss Function" in Romance,
I wanted to say how much I love this story. Absolutely brilliant. I read it a few months ago, and when I clicked through to check it out earlier today I went "Oh my God, this story!" I hadn't remembered the title, but as soon as I read the first paragraph I remembered the rest - it's one that totally lodges in the brain.

(BTW: have you read the Brandon Sanderson "Defiant" series?)
