The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Well the end of a difficult day for me. At least the mercury has hit a sizzling 69 degrees and we got a walk out. Looking like warm again tomorrow then we get it cooler and more rain.

I am a registered anarchist.

Soma churchgoing apaethetoc agnostic. I am sure if god exists but I dont really care. Good people and nature are what I worship.

As a good friend here also said, I prefer to cut out the middle person when it comes to religion and worship.
This is as religious and political as I tend to get.

I don’t trust anyone in positions of power.

Had a nice weekend. Company over. Had to see my mom yesterday. She got released to go back to her assisted-living. It was very confusing and abrupt for her. Could have been handled better I think. Maybe work g the week when there was more staff. My sisters and I managed to help her thru the weekend.

We watched escape from New York last night. I sort of remember it being better than it was. I used to think it was so bad that it was great, but now it’s so bad that it’s… meh. It does have a great cast though: Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, Lee Van Cleef as Houk, Donald Plesance as the prez, Harry Dean Stanton as Brain, and of course Isaac Hayes (Shaft) as The Duke. (And Adrienne Barbeau is total boner material.)

Today is my wife’s birthday, and we went to a local brewery and watch professional wrestling outside in the scorching 94° heat! Now off to dinner.

I hope everyone is well, enjoying their day morning and evening. I have a lot of catch-up and reading to do.

I’m renting a bulldozer tomorrow to clear some land on our farm before I return to work….

A good brunch with other widows and widowers. Then the mundane laundry while catching the baseball game. A rather pleasant day of only 73F.

Checking out the news and weather forecast. I hope both are boring 😂

I dont particularly like people in positions of power either.... what is the saying absolute power corrupts..or something like that. I am only gonna say this about religion (because of our self imposed "rules" most people have a problem with organized religion because of the middle man.

Honestly not too uncommon in much of the world. American and British breakfasts are way too heavy.

Mostly too much food, I think, for first thing. When I was working outta town in May, I was staying in an efficiency. I woke up around 4 mosy mornings and make 4 pieces of toast and fried 2 eggs hard around 6. Two egg sandwiches, dry, was a good balance, and I had been up long enough. It worked.

I HAVE JUST RECEIVED A DM FROM LILI AS SHE KNEW I WAS AWAKE. DUE TO A FAMILY TRAGEDY SHE DOES NOT EXPECT TO BE ON LIT FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. I AM SURE YOU WILL ALL BE PRAYING FOR HER AS AM I.

THANK YOU.

Just checking in today...

Thinking of you and your family today. Take the time you need. We're here when you're ready.

1. Suggest they live in a dorm on campus
2. Suggest they find roommates and live in an apartment or house.

Living with an Uncle is just an extension of living at home, even if he’s a ‘cool’ uncle. Going “away” to college means it’s time to cut the cord so they don’t try to move back in with Mom after graduation.

I’m not suggesting some hard assed “do it like the old days” that no longer applies but just plain growing up, taking responsibility and becoming an adult.

Living with Mommy or an Uncle isn’t going to make their world bigger. Experiencing it will.
First-year students typically aren't supposed to live off-campus, funnily enough. I had to call up the school and tell them that I need my niece and nephew to stay here and help out on the "family farm" when they're not in class or participating in school activities.

The school allows this so long as their grades remain high, which is also one of the big demands that I've made of them. I'm sure they'll both come in handy, growing marsh grass and bindweed for me.

Anyway, they're already crossing international borders to come to school here. They plan on studying overseas eventually, for now they only want a nice quiet place where they can focus on their studies. If they think that they can get the full "college experience" without dealing with all the buffoonery that one so often encounters in a state university then I don't blame them.

It will be a good transition to grown up

I should have joined the French Foreign Legion when I graduated high school and got my ass stationed on that Indian Ocean island or wherevertheHell that is that's half a world away from here. Of course, I might have picked up multiple 20-to-life sentences along that way. I mean, who knows? We all have Alternate Post Graduation stuff, all of which is bullshit because none of it happened. What did happen is what reallt happened, and we would be the people we are today if we hadn't done every damned dumb thing we did to get from there to here.

That said, I'm rereading With Our Backs to Berlin, which is about some young men with a horde of angry Russians rushin' at them and trying to kill them. It's an interesting perspective. Talk about an ass-whuppin'.

All y'all take care, have a good evening/night, and we'll try again tomorrow.

I always tell myself that the "life I could have lived" is actually the life where I stepped out in front of an oncoming truck mere minutes after making whatever decision it was that could have changed everything for me.

I turned my completely worthless degree in underwater medieval Byzantine basket-weaving into a not-too-terrible teaching career, so if I didn't do as good as many then I also didn't do as bad as some. All in all, I have very little to complain about.

she doesn't know about the pistols or the FN-49)
Wow. Ironic. I shit an FN49 for the first time today. Nice handling rifle but we did have a 2 shot slam fire. It’s an Egyptian model that is chambered in 8mm Mauser.

Hopefully we'll do some hiking and bicycling as well. There's some very good museums near here, which they both want to visit with me. They seem like pretty serious, studious kids, certainly more put-together than I was at their age. I don't see them being any more likely to get into trouble than I am.

Anyone have any other ideas on how to keep two (non-drinking) college kids entertained in a small town?
I think it’s just cool that they wanna hang w their cool uncle. Maybe they're good talkers and you can talk about topics of substance w them. Or you can show them how to do practical things that they may not otherwise get to do!

Sounds like it could be cool.

:whistle::censored::)

Mine's an Argie Model, 20-round mag in 7.62x51mm. Almost wish it was Mauser since then it would eat the same ammo as my main deer gun.

Niece plays viola. I play violin and to some extent cello.

I have some practice with Pencak Silat, which my nephew wants to know more about. Maybe my decrepit old ass won't be thrashed too soundly.
