The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Usually dry
I try and get everything done early
Where in California are you if you don’t mind me asking?

I’ve never really been outside the major metropolitan areas before this year. But we went through Temecula over the mountains and then into Palm Springs and the desert areas of the Coachella Valley earlier this year. It was quite beautiful.

Northern about an hour NW of Sacramento

Ok Denizens of the greasy spoon, old man/woman bar and all night cafe. Question of the week:

Who are your top two or three go to bands?

What few bands do you absolutely hate?

And thank you @Yesok1 - what bands are totally overrated? (This should stir shit quite a bit!)
LOVE: Motörhead, UK Subs, The Hives, Slade, The Kinks

DISLIKE: (sorry in advance) Greatful Dead, Journey and Styx

OVERRATED: Radiohead, Beatles, Oasis (sorry)

Totally my bad.

He is often overlooked, but definitely a central part of the Monty Python troupe!!

I wasn't trying to gig you on it. There isn't a loser in the bunch And it meant that I could work the "beautiful plumage" thing and That Damned Kitten into the same post. It's what makes me such a Notable Poster around here.

I only recently started listening to the Dead. I found them tedious way back when. Then again, my iPhone of full of 50YO+ music that I missed way back when for whatever reason.

Love: Tom Morello and anyone he's with, Roger Waters, Sabbath (I know - first 6 albums)

Loathe: Rush, Foreigner, Journey

Over-rated: most pop crap.

We have 30 acres and raise or grow most of what we eat and smoke
That’s amazing. We own a small farm here in NJ too. But no animals right now. We sell firewood, plant seedlings, cut flowers and pumpkins and gourds in the fall.

I'm Out West this morning. I have an albatross Back East which will hang me up there for 8 more months. Then, I sell out and come here for good-n-all, insh'Allah. We're still buying land as we can swing it. And we're going to look at 2 more horses tomorrow. This is Horse Country, and old ones get thrown away all the time. They seem to be grateful for a place to live out their days.

No… good call-out. Palin is often overlooked. (Jesus Christ, when he plays pontius Pilate in Life of Brian has to be one of the funniest scenes of all time .)

As a person who has music on in the background constantly…I mean, literally constantly…..there is no Enjoy The Silence here…something is always on.
I’m all over the board musically. Anything from Classical to Ska and everything in between. I play music, so let me say this….even the bands I “hate” I have respect for. It takes a lot to get up on stage and put yourself out there, only to have people throw darts. Ask me how I know…

Hard for me to pick just two or three. I waffle. I hate a band, only to go back years later and find out I like some of their work. Here are my go to’s…as of this point in time. I reserve the right to change this list a year from now!🤣

The I ❤️ list: (in no particular order):

-New Order - pound for pound and library for library the best of the class of ‘79-‘89

-The Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon…need I say more?

-Crosby Stills Nash & Young - or any combination of those 4….

(Honorable Mention- Sade….yes you read that right! She has one of the most talented bands ever, and her pipes🥰)

The Stinkers 💩🚽:

-The Beatles - loathed them growing up, even though I loved McCartney and Harrison’s solo (JL and Ringo…not so much)

-Springsteen - I can see the hate mail coming! 🤣

-The Ramones…no real reason…just can’t switch the dial fast enough…

(Honorable mention…THE CLONES, no not a band, but the Record Companies quick pick of a band to quickly capitalize on a more talented bands first record or look or whatever…think all the Led Zep clones or late 90’s clones of the early 90’s).

This question is more out of curiosity than a question that might be divisive.

Agree with you HDH, anyone who has the stones to put together a band and get out there and play is pretty impressive.

Yeah, we all have our likes as well as our dislikes.

First the oral surgery visit went well as no cancer.

As for the best bands or likes, that is difficult as I enjoy various styles like rock and roll (early pioneers like Buddy Holly), blues, classical, and jazz.

I have not gotten into rap and not really into swoon singers. The Grateful Dead seemed monotonous.

How about a vote?
Buddy Holly
Credence Clearwater
Fleetwood Mac
The Band
Willy Nelson
Etc.
