I actually really LOVE the Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd. Totally unhinged personally and musically.

Yardbirds, Cream, The Birds (with an I) and a ton of what they called “freakbeat” bands. Garage-y as fuck.

That and “Wish You Were Here” are my two fave Floyd songs. You are quite right, I think The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a very underrated record.

That said, when Gilmour arrived Floyd really came into their own

Another spacey and psychedelic band you may wanna check out is Hawkwind. Heavy metal space rock. Really wild stuff. They had a bass player named Lemmy… who went on to front Motörhead. And a huge boobed (@@) dancer named Stacia who was part of the act. Incredible stuff.

Pretty big in England, but never really made it in the US…
