Reuters: Iran Now 'Weeks or Days' From Nuclear Weapons Material

Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:12 PM EDT

As its 2015 nuclear deal with major powers has eroded over the years, Iran has expanded and accelerated its nuclear program, reducing the time it would need to build a nuclear bomb if it chose to, though it denies wanting to.

A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander said Thursday that Iran could review its "nuclear doctrine" amid Israeli threats. While it was unclear exactly what he meant, and that term tends to refer to countries that, unlike Iran, have nuclear weapons, below is an outline of where Iran stands.

COLLAPSE OF THE DEAL AND BREAKOUT TIME
The 2015 deal introduced strict limits on Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions against Tehran. It slashed Iran's stock of enriched uranium, leaving it only with a small amount enriched to up to 3.67% purity, far from the roughly 90% purity that is weapons grade.

The United States said at the time that a main aim was to increase the time Iran would need to produce enough fissile material for a nuclear bomb - the biggest single hurdle in a weapons program - to at least a year.

Will Joe Green light a nuclear bomb for Iran by sitting on his elderly ass.

45 wrecked the denuclearization of Iran.

We had an anti-nuclear treaty with Iran. A peace treaty that DONALD TRUMP (and NOT Joe Biden) pulled us out of.

Remember, it was TRUMP (and NOT BIDEN!!!) that pulled us out of the Iran nuclear treaty. And surprise Surprise, Iran is building nukes.

Yet somehow, by some twisted logic that only someone with deeply advanced plaque entanglements can come up with, this Iran mess is NOT Donald Trump's fault, but.... Joe Biden's??

"Biden funded Iran's Nuclear Program." HUH? Where the FUCK do you even get that from??? I mean, the utter stupidity of such a statement is just mind blowing. Are you even being serious here?

That's just... special.

Don't worry; most of us have the cognitive capacity to understand the truth- and know which specific (former) U.S. leader is responsible for the current Iran debacle.

Bullshit. Biden funded Iran's nuclear program and continues to do so. He just granted Iran ten billion dollar waiver in sanctions in March.
He did not.

45 ended our ability to monitor nuclear activities.

I hope Iran does get a nuclear weapon....that ought to stop Israel from unilaterally bombing their embassies.

Everyone notice the change in international relations when Pakistan announced it had nukes...no more arm-twisting, the USA had to kowtow to the Pakistani poobahs and ask very nicely if they could raid Pakistan and grab Trump's buddy Osama Bin Laden.

Biden Administration Presses Allies Not to Confront Iran on Nuclear Program

U.S. is arguing against an effort by Britain and France to censure Iran at the IAEA’s member state board
BERLIN—The Biden administration is pressing European allies to back off plans to rebuke Iran for advances in its nuclear program as it seeks to keep tensions with Tehran from escalating before the autumn’s U.S. presidential election, according to diplomats involved in discussions.

Let Iran have nukes, all they do is function as a very effective deterrent to being invaded by other countries. Especially countries heavily invested in their military industrial complex and having a history of attacking and invading other countries for political reasons.

Look at it from Iran's perspective. They made a deal with us and as soon as the next guy comes in we reneg on the deal. Why wouldn't they resume their nuclear program we just demonstrated we can't be trusted to kep our word when we say we want a new deal.

A very good point.

Also, any Americans who understand the Second Amendment should be able to understand a country's need and right to defend itself.
