I absolutely love this post. One of my favorite surprises ever was the year my husband decided we were doing Christmas stockings for the first time. It was a Christmas Eve surprise and since I didn’t know about it, it was just for me. I still remember that it included a sweet Christmas ornament, the sequel to one of my favorite books that I didn’t even know was out, and a small box with a picture of a holiday themed piece of French cookware that I had seen the day before online and fell in love with. It was sold out locally, but arrived a few days later which was like a second surprise.

Other ideas:
- accessories for her favorite hobbies - new cover for her e-reader, art supplies, Bluetooth connection for her record player, a piece of nice cookware or kitchen gadget
- accessories for an activity she’s passionate about - new band for her Fitbit, open ear headphones for running, warm ski socks, swim goggles with a cool feature
- anything that makes her life easier or her feel pampered - gloves with tech fingertips or ones that flip back, slippers you can heat up in the microwave, a portable backup phone battery if she’s always running low
- a night at a hotel - she can stay there alone and enjoy her night to herself and doing anything she wants… or she can invite a friend if she wants a girls night
- tickets to a show or concert or even just a gift card to a fun over 21 movie theater that has comfy recliners and serves you alcohol and food while you watch the movie
- a subscription to a service that asks family members for memories and binds them up in a book

I could happily do this all day, so if you have someone hard to shop for, send me a message

I’d also suggest getting gift receipts and letting her know that if it wasn’t exactly what she wanted, you’d love if she exchange it. The important part is that it makes her happy.

1. go look at where she gets ready for the day. Does she wear makeup/nail polish, etc? Look for the items that are less than half full to nearly empty. Take a picture of the item, and a pic of the label that shows the color name and number. Show the pics to someone working at Ulta or Sephora, and ask them to help you find it.

2. when she runs errands all day alone, where does she stop for lunch/coffee? When she doesn’t have to consider anyone’s else’s wants. Get her a gift card for that place.

3. if you have access to her Amazon account, go look at her cart, then scroll down to ‘saved for later’. She wants all of that stuff, she’s just waiting till she has some extra money for it. Get all the stuff that’s small enough to fit in a stocking

4 jewelry? maybe. the stocking doesn’t have to be super expensive to fill, but if you have the means, put the jewelry in the very bottom. You know those commercials from the big chain jewelers with the heart shaped necklace that the woman in the commercial swoons over? Unless your wife has pointed unprompted directly at the tv during that commercial and said that she would specifically love that…. She doesn’t want that. Look at the jewelry that she has chosen for herself and get something similar in style. Does she like delicate neutrals? Bold chunky colors? Get her something to her taste, not from a commercial.

5. go to Bath and Body Works (not Walmart or Walgreens or 7-11) and get 2-3 mini hand creams and mini hand sanitizer in matching scents.

6. this time you can go to Walgreens or Walmart or 7-11… get a couple tubes of Burt’s Bees lip balm

7. her favorite candy or snack

Wrap stuff if stocking gifts are typically wrapped. It doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty.


There ya go. Don’t drop the ball. If youve never filled her stocking before and she asks why you decided to this time, don’t tell her that you got the idea from a woman on a porn site.

Honestly, if she expressly asks for them, I’m not opposed.

I am a very practical person. I don’t like having a lot of unnecessary stuff around.

I legit asked for a cordless Dyson vacuum years ago. We have 3 flights of stairs and 2 dogs, and the corded vacuum was a pain. At that point in our lives, a $500 vacuum was a huge indulgence and not something in our regular budget. The vacuum was the only thing I wanted, so i asked for that.

instead, my husband spent $500 on a heart shaped necklace from Kay’s jewelry. He laughed and told me that it was because if his coworkers found out that he got his wife a vacuum he’d never hear the end of it. And the opinions of his coworkers were more important than actually getting me what I wanted. Then he spent the next 3 months telling me how we didn’t have $500 for a vacuum because we’d just spent so much money on christmas.
I tried wearing the necklace while I dragged that big vacuum up and down 3 flights of steps twice a week, but it didnt help much.


Just listen and pay attention and get people what they want.

This is rare. It is 99.8% always the mom doing the stockings. I am doing a stocking for my partner for the first time in our time together just because of this thread and that SNL song skit someone posted earlier. I got her a G-spot vibrator and was going to put it in her stocking but her parents are staying with us right now. So I got candy and a sausage that will make her laugh but her parents will think I am crazy.

Maybe I should add my own feedback. I got my wife what she asked for. Not your normal gifts but she wanted some weights as she had been faithful in working out this past year and needed some heavier weights. Thankfully I was paying attention because it’s just what she wanted.

Update: My wife loved the stocking stuffers.
This was a great idea. Who knew soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, and reese's peanut butter cups would be such a big hit.
On a separate note, my wife returned every other gift I got her this year. LOL!

Giving gift to any body is a good costume no matter for Christmas or any other occasions. I believe the price of fight is not important but its reputation is so important. If you give a high price gift to your loved one just once , she or he after a few days or months forget it no matter how much it costs, but if you give them several times in ayear even a cheap one, she or he understands the you don't forget and remember he or she .
