I've often wondered about the reasoning behind that. Does the UK have more chance of winning something if we field four teams or if we club together to make one?

I think that as the world gets smaller we should club together. It might get rid of the differing rivalries that we have. But, everyone loves it when England beat Scotland at any sport. Including throwing telegraph poles at each otger.
