I'm looking for a story I read sometime last year.
The MC is a socially inept guy (maybe on the spectrum?) who spent several years at an arctic research facility at the North or South Pole. While he was there, he learned several languages and all sorts of oddball skills from his colleagues (martial arts, knife throwing, gourmet cooking, etc.). He comes back to the US fairly wealthy from all of the bonuses he earned, and eventually gets married.

The tail end of the story takes place at a backyard barbecue where his wife is flirting with a neighbor or co-worker. I don't recall if she was already cheating or just on the verge of doing so. The MC finishes cooking and sees the wife and the other guy standing off by themselves near a tree, so he throws a knife into the tree they're standing under to get their attention. He then makes a remark that seems innocuous to him, but comes across as a threat to the guy the wife was flirting with.

It turns out that all of the MC's friends and neighbors think he's some sort of spy due to his eclectic skill set and the fact that due to non-disclosure agreements with the research facility, he is always very evasive when asked about his past.

It's a similar concept, but no that's definitely not the story I'm looking for.
As I said in my original post, the story I'm looking for has an MC who worked in the arctic or antarctic for a long time and learned all sorts of skills from his colleagues. Due to NDAs, he always downplays or evades answering questions about his past so his circle of friends/acquaintances eventually decide he is or was some sort of undercover agent.
