When I was I college, I loved the all night greasy spoons. That was where we went when, devoid of hoped for female company, we’d dive deeply into the eggs and bacon. These days I look forward to that first cup of coffee in the morning and wonder how I ever stayed out so late. Time has a way!

Yes, it is, actually. My blood relatives (my kids are great!) are basically annoying as fuck. I have friends who know what is going on with me in way greater depth than my mother or brother do.

I get that! There's really no such thing as a functional family, I think.

Dysfunctional, from the Greek. It functions but it hurts. Dispunction from the Latin would mean it fails to function. At least, that's what the old priest told me, and he has spent eons studying things like that.


My non-blood family works out pretty well. The cats do, too.

I have a little 12 lb, 7 year old Tibetan Spaniel. She's a spoiled girl!

4 cats: tiny 17yo Siamese male; 2yo black male, large and heavy; 2 yo tortie Longhair; and 3 yo tortie shorthair bossy bitchcat. It's their house and their stuff and I'm damned glad they let me pay the bills and buy the food.


There's a farm out west that I own part of. Going this weekend. The Longhair will go with me. There are horses and labs to see.


And a couple of people, maybe.

Man, my mom was super with it today. 95 years young.

We were talking about elvis songs, for some reason, and I asked her which one she liked best. She shook her head and said: “I grew up in the jazz age.”

Then to prove it, she got up, pushed her walker out of the way and proceeded to do the Charleston! We were all amazed.

She had a great birthday. Great food. Family. All good stuff. Super nice visit
and party.

Got home from my mom’s and the water had almost totally receded. Was able to get some work done at the farm, but man it was cold.
