Today, being 3/14, is also known at least in education circles as Pi day (3.14)… and in keeping with family tradition here, we’ve made two pies with the top crust being made from all the digits of pi we could fit (in the oven baking now).

In an hour a half I get to go to conferences for my youngest two kids so the teachers can tell me all about how well they behave in class and how helpful they are that make me wonder whose kids they’re talking about.

Then off to the UPS Sfore for the latest Amazon returns from my wife (I swear 1/3 of her orders get returned) and to the post office to drop off an eBay sale item!

Then home to make an early dinner before taking kids to the science dome at a nearby college for a show there, then get them home and put to bed.

Nothing going on tomorrow except some grocery shopping, and I have to take my son to two different soccer games, one Saturday, one Sunday.

Man, I don’t know if I can handle all this fun.

I usually make a pie for Pi day, however, my H is a diabetic who just had to start on insulin. I just couldn't do that to him. So, alas, no pie for me either on Pi Day!

As an Amazon shopper who could probably give your wife a run for her returns, did you know you can take your returns to Kohls? You don't even have to pack them up. Win!

Hitting 50 scared me too, but now I've recently turned 66, and looking back, I consider myself to have been a young stud back then, lol. I still feel pretty much the same as I did then, it's only the mirror that tells me otherwise.

I found I felt a lot more alive and vibrant after 60, being burdened with fewer fucks to give!

Hmm, a fun concept. Naturally I know what pi is, but the pi day idea is new to me, I wonder if it is because we tend to notate out dates the other way around, so 14.3 rather than 3.14

True that, every so often I think of how many people I grew up with, who are no longer with us.

I am 72. I find I attend more funerals than weddings these days. I feel very young when I go to graduation parties or weddings and so old at funerals. But, I have made it this far so I knock on wood and take it a day at a time.

I am also a type 2 diabetic and fortunatley not taking insulin. I completely understand about the diet. I have some low sugar recipes to share if anyone wants them.

Good morning early risers. Yesterday was one of swings in emotions. I took my grandson to his autism therapy and watched him have a meltdown in the car. It was upsetting to both of us as I could do nothing to console him while driving. Then I had my granddaughter for an hour and she was very cuddly which helped my mood. And the best thing was the massage for my old aching muscles. Nothing better than a woman's strong hands on my aching muscles to lift the spirits.


Today the weather is very cold. Last night I read that many in the Midwest south of the Great Lakes State suffered through tornados. I hope you made it through the terrible weather, OK.

I learned very early in my marriage that it’s best to yield full control to my wife over home purchases and decor. She’s picked each of the houses we’ve bought over the years, including one that I hadn’t even seen before we put in the offer because I was traveling on business. She oversees all major remodeling and landscaping projects, makes design decisions, selects furniture, colors, and everything else. I like her tastes and eye for details I often don’t think about, but more importantly, the old axiom “happy wife, happy life” is the main thing. Had no idea I was in a FLM.

When we moved to our current house a couple of years ago, we did agree on one room that I have full control over for my antique bottle collection. I get to display my wild and rebellious side. Maybe I should write a kinky story about that. lol.

My wife and oldest son are both Type 1, but they’re veterans at it.

The UPS Store is close to the Post Office and more convenient than Kohl’s, and I don’t have to pack for them either as long as I have the code to scan.

The only date we almost universally write in the British format is July 4, 1776 but we tend to say 4th of July.

Why July 4, 1776? That’s how it’s written on the Declaration of Independence and it’s carried over through the years.

Just one of those quirks of history.

Pretty much the same with my late wife. I was in control of the kitchen and cooking and oversaw the contractors for house improvements etc. My marriage worked better that way.

The past few days have been spectacular here. One the best things I like about winter’s exit is it brings the neighbors out for walks and bicycle rides. Being still somewhat new to the area, walking my dog is the main activity that gives me a chance to get to know my neighbors. My dog is great at helping start conversations. He often snarls as we approach people walking dogs that are smaller than him and wags his tail when we approach the bigger dogs. Tough guy.

I’m terrible at remembering names so each time I meet someone on the street, I immediately write down their name and house afterwords and keep a file on my phone so I’ll remember.

I used to meet and chat with quite a lot of people while walking the dog in the park, doesn't happen much now since I switched to walking mostly in the early mornings and bypassing the park, there wouldn't be anybody there so early anyway. I do still walk in the park occasionally, in fact I'll be going in about half an hour, I'm just waiting for it to cool down, it should be quite busy about now.
