So, I’ve not yet seen Poor Things, but excited to see Emma play a naive who loves sex. Go girl!

But… even cooler. My man Wes finally gets some recognition. One of him or Fiennes should have won for Grand Budapest.

Oppenheimer was excellent, so no arguments there. I really didn’t get what all the fuss was about re Barbie. And I love Greta’s work in general.

Since I didn't see most of the nominees, I"m in no position to judge, but I thought Oppenheimer was excellent and both Murphey and Downey Jr. were deserving.

I saw Barbie and didn't get what all the fuss was about.

People were raving about Gosling (who I’ve liked in other things), but honestly Simu Liu was much better.

Didn't see the movies or read the books or watched the award show. (and one of my sisters owns a movie theater.) Not intentional avoidance, really, although I never was in the mode to see Oppenheimer. Too close to a life I left behind, I suppose.

We don't go to the movies often. Sometimes, when we visit Mum and Pops, we go to the theater he manages. We haven't seen many in the theaters since the pandemic. Streaming works for us.

My experience with Barbie was all the pre-release hype made me feel like I should watch it as an 'event' movie.

I was on a long (more than 8 hour) flight with my 8-year old daughter. I'd planned to watch it with her, but only one of the headphones was working, so I watched along with just the pictures. She enjoyed the first twenty minutes right up to the point when they went into the real world and Ken started learning about the patriachy. Then she asked to turn it off and watched another movie that she's already seen.

My sister, a forty year old with a PhD in the humanities, assures me that it's ace.

My opinion is that it failed to do the one task I expect of a Barbie movie - entertain a young girl for two hours.

I'm glad I got to have an opinion on it.

Barbie was much more of a 70s and 80s nostalgia fest than I expected, and I think that was the audience being targeted (and their children and possibly grandchildren now). I was laughing and pointing out features in the background all through, to the spouse who was mostly oblivious. I swear Barbie's house made me feel like I was trapped in my cousin's bedroom at Christmas again...

I loved the first 2/3, then it turned into a bit of a mess when it could have got really interesting (and paved the road for a Ken sequel?). And the 'amazing' speech was just cringemaking. I doubt anyone watching would have got that far and still been amazed, except maybe children?
