Bye, Florida: residents in the dumbfuck state want out - badly

hurricanes, flooding, sky-high property insurance (if they can even find any at all), measles, algae blooms along with the weather destroying beaches/entertainment, higher costs to districts now having to pay taxes on land Disney would otherwise have paid for, gender attacks, religious bigotry, attacks on education... desantis... it goes on and on. I have no idea why anyone would want to live in Florida at all, to be honest.

Live there ? Hell! I’m never visiting if I can get shot for raising my voice and scaring a cute little snowflake. Or Gerry plowed over in a peaceful assembly by a pissed off Trumplikan.

We have the original Disneyland. It’s good enough. No one has lost a child to an alligator there.

Florida is a few climate change exacerbated category “7" hurricanes and 8 MORE inches of sea level rise from being basically uninhabitable.

The entire east coast of the US and the entire gulf coast is looking at some serious trouble from climate change exacerbated hurricanes and sea level rise as well.

Oddly enough, sea level rise won’t be quite as big of a problem for the West Coast because the land is rising due to tectonic activity.

Of course, climate change exacerbated Hurricanes / atmospheric rivers alternating with climate change exacerbated mega-droughts is just as
dire of a threat.

🤬

Winter and spring weather in Florida is generally amazing. It’s particularly satisfying to be there when there are blizzards or ice storms elsewhere.

One of the great things about the USA. Don't like the State you're in, move somewhere else. Good ole freedom for the win.

I have relatives living in Florida, all with expensive houses no higher than 3 inches above the water table, all within a mile of the ocean, and the polar caps are melting. What possibility could go wrong with that? I'll have admit I have a place in Key West that also will be under water soon, but at least it isn't my only house.

agreed, but all things considered, I'd rather live in a State where people still believe in freedom. Florida isn't one of those.

Recently, I spoke to a man and his wife, one a lawyer and the other a doctor. They sold their home after living in Florida for two years after retirement. They moved out of state specifically because of the governor's policies.

Here’s some highlights from a 1/29/2024 Chamber of Commerce report:

Florida Chamber: State Population to Slow in 2024
By Amy Connolly
The chamber also said the housing market will begin to stabilize to a new normal, and home prices will no longer spike.

Annual job growth will continue to outpace the nation. One in 13 jobs in the US are created in FL.

Florida will continue growing at a faster pace than any other state

Florida’s economic growth will remain positive but will slow to more sustainable levels. Florida’s GDP is expected to grow by 7%, higher than the national average.

Florida will see 100,000 to 150,000 new jobs in 2024

Florida will continue to lead the nation in income migration

Housing insurance market in chaos.

High inflation - higher than the national average, and Miami has the highest in the nation.

Crime and murder rates.

Cultural war bullshit instead of policy.

and Disney is the company that will be responsible for a lot of them proving that Desantis was completely wrong and Disney would be able to do more without Florida's government interference.

Yep. Disney recently announced it plans to invest billions in FL and add 13,000 new jobs in the state. Lol

Florida Homeowners Are Trying to Offload Their Damaged Properties

https://www.newsweek.com/florida-homeowners-trying-offload-damaged-properties-1876782

Florida has more damaged properties up for sale than any other state in the country, according to data available on Zillow, revealing that homeowners in the Sunshine State are eager to unburden themselves from homes whose repairs could cost them greatly.

As of Thursday morning, there were a total of 202,545 properties listed on Zillow (including all types of properties from single-family and multi-family homes, to condos and lots of land) by agents in Florida. Of these, 963 were described as having some damage.

The number of damaged properties for sale was much higher than in states like California, New York and Texas. California had a total of 73,317 properties listed for sale on Zillow on Thursday morning, 38 of which were damaged. New York had 20 damaged properties up for sale for a total of 42,885, while Texas had 95 for a total of 176,756 properties for sale on Zillow.

Sorry haters. Reality check, courtesy of Nate Silver. ✅

Americans love Florida, even if you don't

https://www.natesilver.net/p/americans-love-florida-even-if-you
Reality check, people move around, sometimes someone discovers the pasture isn't as green as it appeared from a distance.

If you use the graph percentages from Boomers article, it shows a net gain in population, but when the inflow and the outflow of people is used, the actual gain was 49,280 people. Not a whole lot when you consider 390 Million Americans.

Find something better to argue about....

Your math is off. Florida’s population was 21,830,708 in 2021. In 2022 it grew to 22,245,521.

I used 2022 numbers, since that is what the chart referenced. Though I had it at 22,240,000.
Sorry, but your math is off by more than a few hundred thousand. Silver is right. The US census bureau numbers clearly show that Americans love Florida even if Rory doesn’t. ❤️
