I never shave because I don't want prickly stubble, but I use a scissor to keep it trimmed real short, so pubic hair is visible but it is minimal. It just looks cleaner and more appealing in my opinion.
I'm quite hairy all over my body (except my head) so I think it would look weird to have all the pubic hair removed. So I shave my balls since I like how sensitive they get when they are clean and shaved. The rest gets a trim to match my body hair.
