....should I get a puppy?

My two other dogs are getting up in age. It’s time when I typically introduce a new one to the menagerie.

However, as I am now in my fifties, I wonder if this is the last opportunity to get a puppy?

I will be in my sixties when the puppy will be a ‘senior’ dog.

I've not seen the expiration date on my birth certificate :D
It all depends on your plans.... heading toward retirement are you going to want to travel where a dog would not allow that or are you a take my dog on a hike and plan things around you and your pup.... time for some soul searching.... I don't have animals because I would be a terrible dog mom..... I have a step pup that lives next door who I spoil and adore..... and he loves me right back.... and that is enough for me

That is so true. I retired 3 years ago and had dogs in my younger years. Thought about getting another but they can be to much responsibility. I travel and like to be free to come and go and it is not fair to the dog to leave them or put in a kennel whenever you want to travel. I to get my fix from brother's dog and the dogs I see on my daily walks.

U could also volunteer to walk dogs at the shelter to get your fix... those dogs are starved for attention, and it can be done on your time

Wow, I hadn’t thought about that… I’m 61, and my boxer is 3, so he will be a senior dog when I’ll be about 66… I had several years between my last boxer passing and getting this one… so he’s probably going to be my last dog, more likely than not.

My dad passed at 68, so I’m only 7 years younger than that now, and when I went to one of those websites that estimates the age you’ll die at it said 76. So, if I were to get another puppy after this one crosses the rainbow bridge, there’s a good chance he will outlive me. For that matter, it’s possible my dog could outlive me as it is.

As heartbreaking as it is to lose a beloved pet, I don’t know what it would be like for the pet to lose its owner… they’re just gone, they don’t understand what happened. Why were they abandoned?

I don’t think I would want to be on my deathbed knowing that.

Hi all, new to this great thread but looking forward to catching up with the posts later x

Get the puppy if you want; you're still young! Just make sure you make provisions for your dogs in the event they survive you.

I'm 65; my dog is 7. I got her when she was 5 from someone looking to rehome her. She is my little baby, keeps me young, and I could not be happier! 💞💞

Awww! Pretty puppy, MissK! 💞💞

I went snowshoeing yesterday. It was good to be outside and get some exercise and fresh air. I've been inside and lazy this winter.
We've had a pretty mild winter so far. Have been able to be up and out most of the winter except for the last week or so. Back to warmer temps next week.

A little while ago an acquaintance passed who was a cat person. It was so sad as her friends were trying to find people to adopt her cats. Eventually they found homes for all of them - thank goodness!

I think I am going to get a puppy . She/he will be my last one. Thankfully I will be able to foster dogs in the county where I live later after mine are gone.

Woke up to temperature in the teens with the " feel like " in the single digits. We got away with two small snow storms this week dumping just 3 or 4 inches at most each time. No big deal.

10°F currently and it will clear when the sun comes up. I should ride my fat-bike today.
Thor, weren’t those biked developed for snow? They‘re using them on the beach down here now. Although the salt is wreaking havoc on some of the cheaper makes!

There have always been beach cruisers with the fattest tires they could find. I can't say that development was for snow but the iditabike race certainly push the tech forward. Alaskans used to custom make wide rims and bikes that would handle them. Now, they're popular everywhere because riding one is like being 10 years old again. Still, they need a trail in the snow to ride on.

Happy to meet you all.

Over 50 here and vastly prefer men at least over 45, but preferably over 55.

Menopause and HRT has only heightened my sex drive.
You are very fortunate to be even friskier after menopause. It was the direct opposite for my wife. :(

Our big guy weighs about 60 lbs and lays it down like a sack of potatoes. He pretty much determines how us humans adjust.
We have two boxers, and my wife makes them sleep in our youngest boy’s room… meanwhile just about every night our youngest girl climbs into out bed and is a bigger hindrance to sleep than the dogs were! Her cat sleeps on our bed too (my cat hasn’t been lately).

man it was cold, but my wife and I delivered 2.5 cords of firewood today, so we stayed pretty warm.

We also took a nice walk in the woods which I thought would keep us warm but we were ready to turn back after a mile or so.

Then this song came on and I dared my wife to give me road head. TBH I was wearing carhart coveralls and a few layers so it was not possible. Maybe today??
