It may have been in line with characters, I'll concede on that point. But, the season was rushed, and the characters felt less three dimensional. It's like the step dads took George R. R. Martin's rich source material and wrote an addendum in crayola.

Just at five times the speed the rest of the series ran and the choice of king sucked. Also the demise of the Night King was so anti-climatic and dare I say, lazy.
