Will her failure to answer the question kill her run for the presidency?

Why was the question asked to begin with this is 2024 not 1864?

The U.S Civil War was caused by southern rage over new states in the west not being forced to adopt slavery. They could foresee a future where they would be outnumbered in Congress, and their loathsome institution would be made illegal. So they seceded.
Yes, that was the cause of the war

Greed for money and power, same as every war since History.
Is the shorthand way of saying the same thing. The plantation owners which to a very large dree were the ruling powers in the old south didn't want to be stripped of their property (Slaves) and their power (giving their balance of power in the Senate) because if that happened slavery would eventually outlaw slavery..

Perhaps read this and finally put the issue to bed; it’s a complex issue that can’t be solved or thoroughly discussed on a porn board. One factor never discussed is the industrialization of the north and expanding big government.

That poster doesn't do succinct and dislikes my wording. Besides, that answer doesn't explain every other war ever. Mine does.

Here's the horror: if slaves had had no value, the point would have been moot.

The common link in everything you listed is about slavery, and you say it was industrialisation and big government??? wow, just wow...

It’s past remarkable what some people will allow themselves to believe.

The rw do seem to exist in an alternate universe where the ACW was not about slavery, where hitler was a socialist, where we didn’t reach the moon, where 9/11 was an inside job and where trump is the messiah.

How did this happen?

I’m expecting a flat earth thread any day soon.

Are you purposefully stupid. Slavery in not the only reason for the civil war, I never wrote it wasn’t a factor. Slavery was always an issue between north and south but secessionist threatening to secede from the union played a big factor, actually led to the war.

So what do you mean by it? The South didn't like being the rural hicks side of the country; being dominated by a rich north didn't fit with the delusions of self grandeur that had been carefully cultivated throughout the plantations?

I don't know about your State but North Carolina joined the Confederacy only after Washington closed off their ports.

The south seceded because of slavery.

Just like the first Civil War, Democrats.
Most Democrats today would admit that the party was wrong in 1860. The Democratic Party only started being on the side of fairness and justice in 1960. The Republicans unfortunately took the other fork in the road.

If people are still asking this question almost 150 years later... there is something wrong with the standard answer.
There’s no debate about what happened back then. Conservatives just don’t like hearing the truth about the Civil War.

Like when the democrats went into French Indochina to fight? Or you mean more recent times like when they destabilized Egypt with the muslim brotherhood, murdered Gaddafi and open Europe to mass foreign immigration? Or left Afghanistan in chaos? Or more present times killing the world economy and fueling conflicts like Ukraine or soon Taiwan? Democrats today have abandon our friendship and relations with the rest of the world. It is not fair nor just for them to squander all we have worked for as a nation. Destroying our stability is not fair to those of us who have worked to make America Great.

“Before the American Civil War, Southern Democrats were mostly White men living in the South who believed in Jacksonian democracy. In the 19th century, they defended slavery in the United States, and promoted its expansion into the Western United States against the Free Soil opposition in the Northern United States.”

Fast forward 150 years and it’s democrats unloading their guilt on everyone else including present day conservatives.
