Beat the price increase, and if you do not trust what I have written below, feel free to google around about this and you will see it is all over the news. In case you do not follow the news, several ammo factories like Vista (Federal/CCI/Speer/Remington), and Ammo Inc have sent out letters about a 'substantial' price increase in January 2024. We also got a letter from Winchester that says out cost on 9mm is going up about $20 per 1000 starting Jan 1st 2024. Keep in mind that history shows that all the other ammo factories will follow the lead in cases like this, so it is unlikely that any other brand will simply stay where they are on prices while others go up. We will have to pass that increase on when it happens, at least sooner or later. The point made by the factories seems to be that nitrocellulose used to make gunpowder will be short in supply in 2024, because supply normally used to make gunpowder for handgun and rifle ammo has been diverted in large quantities to make propellants and explosives for large caliber military artillery shells used in conflict zones around the world. We do not have hard numbers yet for what that price increase will be for most products, but estimate it will be 5% to 10% across the board, some items more or less. We also hear from the factory that it will most likely lead to shortages in large rifle calibers like 30-06, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 Win Mag, 7mm Mag, PRC calibers, 338 Lapua, 50 BMG, etc, etc due to the large amount of powder needed to load those larger rounds and the factory using that powder to load more rounds of smaller calibers instead. Overall, I do not see this price increase unfolding very rapidly, there is probably 2 to 4 weeks, maybe 6, before the public really sees the change start to happen on pricing, and even longer on supply shortages for large calibers, but it will happen.

Makes me glad that I just did a restock.
I might even make an effort today or tomorrow to get to the farm and home center and pick up some more.
It could be a very good investment if I buy at today's prices and then sell at 2024's prices.

The problem with the larger calibers isn't that they use more powder, it's that they use slower burning powders whose manufacturing process is more complicated AND most of those powders are of foreign manufacture.

Then again, they might think having the ability to have their Communist and Socialist allies shut down our access to ammunition in a crisis is a good thing since we're always the bad guys in their estimation. No cheap labor involved. Most of those powders are manufactured in France, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. And the reasons are manifold, mostly due to stupid regulations imposed by this administration and the Obama administration. For example one reg. they tried to push through was to make the shipment of nitro-cellulose a high level hazmat activity. Nitro-cellulose is shipped in water making it impossible to burn let alone detonate. Fucking morons.

I have several boxes of 77 grains and I think I have a half case of 69 grain. During my brief blow-through visit Out West, I did do a touch of inventory. I used the 62 grain stuff for sighting the two rifles. There is some 55 that I'll need to sort out and use for punching holes in targets.

The 55's are the most economical and are more than adequate out to 200 yds., at 300 they start getting a little flaky. The 73's are working well at 300 so I'm going to move over to the 1000 yd range and start some tests at 400. I suspect that I'm going to have to go to a scope for those.
