Do you own your body?

not entirely sure this is the proper thread for the link, but i feel Ohio gov is doing the right thing in educating himself on the topic of gender-care for minors before making a decision whether or not to block or permit a bill to pass with or without his signature. The more any of us understands about a subject, the better we are able to make informed decisions.

Having said that, i don't know if the hospitals he's visiting specialise in gender-care or have staff who are personally anti it, but i can hope he'll be able to come to a greater understanding of the issues facing the children, parents AND hospital staff on this.

He said he cleared his calendar this week in order to visit three Ohio children's hospitals — in Akron, Cincinnati and Columbus — to study the issue. He said he's also incorporating input from both proponents and opponents of the hot-button legislation and doing loads of reading.

“We're dealing with children who are going through a challenging time, families that are going through a challenging time,” he said. “I want, the best I can, to get it right.”

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has vetoed Ohio House Bill 68, which is comprised of two acts: the "Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act," which would ban transgender minors from receiving gender-affirming medical care, and the "Save Women's Sports Act," which would prevent transgender girls from taking part in girls' and women's sports.
He announced that he agreed with several concerns from the legislature and will draft rules for gender-affirming care moving forward -- including bans on surgeries for minors, reporting and data collection on those who receive care, as well as restrictions on "pop-up clinics" that serve the transgender community.

Your right to life - to get life saving care - is now in the hands of each state. That is if you're a pregnant woman. Everyone else is fine, but pregnant women... eh, who cares. They're just replaceable incubators right? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And in the meantime, no conservative has even tried to defend this travesty. Silence. What a bunch of hypocritical assholes.

despite there being no evidence of any gender surgery on minors, Ohio governor appeases evangi-magat base by banning any gender surgery on minors

DeWine’s order comes a week after he vetoed House Bill 68, which would have banned all gender-affirming care for minors, including puberty blockers and hormone therapy. Those treatments are the most common forms of care for transgender youth. The governor initially said that if he were to sign the bill, which also would bar trans students from participating in sports, the state would be interfering with parents’ medical decisions for their children. “A week has gone by, and I still feel just as firmly about that as I did that day,” he said at a news conference Friday morning. “I believe that parents, not the government, should be making these crucial medical decisions for the children.”

Gender-affirming surgery for minors is extremely rare and usually comes in the form of a double mastectomy, also known as top surgery, to relieve chest dysphoria for transmasculine youth.

The president of the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association, Nick Lashutka, who testified before the state legislature, told WCMH-TV, an NBC affiliate in Columbus, that the state’s children’s hospitals never perform any surgeries on minors for gender dysphoria.

Ah so he gets to look good to his base, without really making any change. Typical MAGA politicians thinking; red meat, red meat, red meat.....
pretty much, though he has brought in more 'controls' over access by transgenders to care, though these don't sound very different from what the UK already had in place...psychiatric evals, discussions with other 'experts', and full disclosure of any pros and cons. A frustrating system for those who have known for years they're living in a wrongly-gendered body and want access as quickly as possible but more likely to weed out those rare few with other problems who have fixated on gender change as an answer to their problems when it won't be.

Not much different there than here in Canada as well. In fact until the US started making noise about it, no one here even paid any attention.
