Both parties get only tepid support, apathy, or disgust from most of the nation because they can't imagine or offer anything better than the same old shit.
One side offers progress, which would be fine if we could have some. Quality of life in the US has been declining since before most of us were born. We have more homelessness, falling lifespans, lifetime debt, and young adults staying with their parents longer because they can't afford their own homes. To achieve that progress which gets farther away every payday, people must obey rules that are constantly changing. The poor must carry most of the burden, such as giving up cars, meat in their diets, gas home heating, etc., so the wealthy can keep their jet travel vacations, mansions, and luxury yachts.
The other side demands obedience to older rules that change less, with a payoff of Armageddon, the end of the fucking world. They learned to stop putting a specific year on Armageddon after it kept not happening in all the previous years when it was confidently predicted. There is a matching amount of hypocrisy, usually involving sex and its consequences.
What eventually kicks them both to the curb won't come from any established or respectable source. Imagining and communicating something different from the status quo is the job of the fringes, the scorned and disreputable people who have nothing to lose in voicing dissent or anything outside the Overton window.
If you think this whole topic is BS, you can ignore everything above and vote on who sang it best: Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, anyone else on youtube, yourself if you have the pipes, etc.
