If I may, I'll add a my two cents worth here Dane; we are big fans of Scandinavian movies....... and series (e.g. The Bridge, Dragon Tattoo el al) to name just a few, and have been so for quite a few years. It has become second nature watching and reading at the same time. The brain, along with the eyes, is quite a remarkable bit of kit when it comes to learning something new.

One movie we watched recently is a particular favourite.....The Bombardment, which if memory serves me correctly, took place in Denmark. Have watched it a couple of times now and will probably buy it.

So yes, I guess we're "learning" new languages, albeit in a very limited fashion. Not so sure about Finnish (Suomi) though

Thank you your comments, Richard. I am very happy to hear that you enjoy these Scandinavian movies and series. They are quite popular here too and it is great to see that they appeal to a larger audience. And I quite agree that The Bombardment is a great movie although quite dark and taps into a very sad story that most Danes know about the unfortunate destruction of the French School in Copenhagen during a raid aimed at the Gestapo headquarter and the unfortunate death of a large number of children. But it is very well made and filmed and I was very touched by it myself.
But a great way to learn about other languages, and Vanessa seems to have picked up quite a few words and sentences , but I’m sure you will both find it harder with the Finnish language which is closer to Slavic languages like Hungarian….!!

Yes, you're right about Finnish ... even though I have Hungarian blood, and know a few of their phrases, the best I can do with Finnish is to say it sounds a bit like Hungarian.
