What’s your most controversial opinion?

It is obvious from the responses of most folks in this thread that they agree. People come to lit for fun and lighthearded stuff and don't often want to engage in more difficult discusions here. I hope that everyone that did not speak up but believes violence against women(and abuse on men) is wrong will actually do so in their in person lives. The reality is most will not, not because they think it is ok but because it is a difficult conversation to have and most people think someone else will step in.

Normalizing violence by not speaking out against it breeds an environment that allows it. I think we are all responsible to speak up and out for the things that run against our personal value system. Silence is compliance and it doesn't matter if that is in person or online as both are real life.
Online it gets more difficult to determine who is a troll and who you can have a real conversation with but I think we should all still be speaking out.
sure, yes to all of that.
But again, the point here is that you can not tell somebody that because they choose not to participate in a discussion on an online forum they are taking a side. That is inciting and a form of mental abuse (manipulation).
Give people the platform and the voice to exercise it, at their will.
Now, walking by violence or witnessing a situation and not coming to aid, yes I would agree is in the realm of acceptance and ignoring what we can control. This situation is not that. Personally attacking somebody for not wanting to participate in any topic is, as I mentioned, abusive.

I ignored and blocked from the first post. The person identifies themselves as a "professional pothead" and is probably a troll so I didnt bother even reading half of their garbage. I got a major "here to troll" vibe and this time didn't bother.

I'm not afraid to engage and call out the ghouls. I've done it before, more than once. In Lit and RL. This time I made a judgment call and didn't. Should I have? I dunno. But having people get in my face with "silence is complicity" for not feeding a troll was a pretty massive and shitty jump.
I’m not a believer of silence is complicity, particularly on a pseudonymous message board. I think calling it out and ignoring it are both 100% valid responses. And report it if it’s problematic. And I think you’re right that they are here to troll. Who in the world would even suggest what they are suggesting? Not a reasonable person.

Lord, I fed a troll. Now I feel like a total douche newb.

Is it noon yet? Where is that Fireball I bought last night...

A very good girlfriend of mine who was married to a Muslim man (now divorced) was both physically & especially mentally abused at a level I never knew existed. Thankfully they didn't have children because I'm sure that POS would be abusing them as well. He even said that being a Muslim gave him the right.
He ended up in the ICU for 2 weeks & I'm sure he's still feeling the effects to this day. I plead the 5th on who did the deed.

Yeah, that's kinda why I ignored it the first time. It's obviously someone casting a bait line. And of course it's never wrong to call out anything horrible.

A lot of the time, no one cares about your problematic preferences. It’s only when you get loud and proud of them.

I heard it something like 3 times last week. Hats off to anyone that manages to avoid this some completely. 🤣
Only the original counts, but it is hard to avoid. Plus my partner “threatens” me all the time, lol. He’ll show me his phone and the song is queued up! The other day he dropped me off at my office and texted me that it came in 30 seconds after I got out of the car!
I was out on Thursday I think. Stupid radio.
Aw, man! I’ve only made it all the way once.

A stadium dj played it at a lower league football match here (soccer) and got so many complaints he had to issue and apology... wiped out 7.5k people from the game in one go...

Haha. He said he didn't realise people took it so seriously. 🤣

So your position is that song is worse than McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime”?

I am rooting for the Niners today.
Yeah, I know my team is in DC. The thing is I have great motivation to do so.
My spouse was a Niners fan when we first met.
Plus my favorite barista is one also. :D

Lennon's 'Happy X-Mas' probably isn't supposed to be as sad as it makes me.
