I haven't seen any rape or anything you listed in any of the categories I've visited. Clearly hate, rape etc aren't nearly is popular as incest here. It's not a matter of what's worth bitching about, my original post is questioning why incest is so popular. Please don't completely twist it to make it sound like I'm somehow ok with rape content.

I don't agree with many comments in this thread, but most have been logical and respectful, unlike yours.

Plenty of people (including yourself) constantly complain about the violent rape and violent BTB. Some (including yourself) also complain about non-violent noncon and nonviolent BTB.

Laurel has taken a much harder line on non-con and incest appearing outside the category in the last few years. The fantasy categories + novels & novellas have a bit more leeway ( because authors lobbied and the readership there doesn't complain to the same degree others do ) but a lot of it is either getting slotted into the appropriate category or hit with a site note pointing out the edgy content.

Report it if it's outside the category and there's no content warning. ( from the author or the site ) It could be an oversight that will result in a move or the site note. Or if it's 5+ years old, it's because there wasn't as much gatekeeping of those two subjects prior.

My personal opinion is because there is so much free porn available, people have become desensitized to what used to be taboo and have to keep ranging farther afield to get that kick. The thought of what comes after incest grows stale is somewhat alarming

I know what you mean, it does seem to be everywhere these days. Not just in literotica, but in porn videos and has shown up in specific tv shows such as Game of Thrones (which I believe it heavily put the idea of it out in the open). I have written some stories on the subject, but it's not my primary focus. I think it's become popular simply because of how taboo it is; it's probably the most forbidden type of fantasy you can have. Most people would feel ashamed for the porn they watch or read about, but incest stories goes to a new level because it borderlines the fantasy involving your own family members, even when you're not specifically fantasizing about your own family members.

Going off subject, I am surprised that there's not too many stories about cousins out there. You would figure that would be an easier subject to talk about considering it's a less forbidden subject than fantasizing about your immediate family members. And let's face it, we all have that one attractive cousin we can't help thinking about. But people focus more on immediate family members; probably because it's far more taboo to talk about. But still surprising that if incest is becoming more popular in porn, you're not seeing cousin sex a lot more than it should be.

Why? I think its as simple as the word taboo. Take away NC, and I/T is the only sexual category(excluding horror sci fi non human) that's something forbidden in real life, therefore it becomes attractive just for that reason. It also appeals to those who either in the past-or maybe now-do have some thoughts of a family member that they would never act on so they live through these stories.

I/T is a trump category with GM and NC being the others. Its love it, hate it, with little in between.

But I think when people complain about it here, its not just that they may not care for the category, but there's a jealousy factor when it comes to the votes/views/comments and the list I linked.

Taboo is king in porn, and not just here, Step Mom is routinely one of the most searched porn categories and milf is close after so its either you mom, step mom, or another person's mom.

the main reason porn is faux-cest and step is down to the payment companies putting pressure on sites like pornhub [as a form of censorship]. they don't like direct blood ties. this cascades down to the producers then having to adjust their content. i write for a fairly major player - something like 20 scenes a month. i have to be very careful about dialogue and always have to include direct clarification of the relationship - i.e. step-[sibling, mother, etc.].

If you look at polls into sexuality and sexual experiences, incest plays a big part in people's lives. In some countries, where it's not as taboo as others (ie typically Western), incest is a lot more common again.

Not looking for it again now, but I did see one poll suggesting as much as 40% of us at some point in our lives will have some kind of incest experience.

So, it makes sense that it's high on the list of interests... Over on Sexstories.com, out of their massive list of genres, incest is one of the few with more than 10,000 stories.
