Man who attacked Capitol with tomahawk and now promotes Jan. 6 merchandise gets 7 years in prison

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Texas man who attacked the U.S. Capitol with a metal tomahawk — and is now the face of a website selling merchandise portraying jailed rioters as “political prisoners” — was sentenced Friday to seven years behind bars.

Shane Jenkins, 46, tried to smash a Capitol window with his tomahawk during the Jan. 6, 2021, siege. He also repeatedly threw makeshift weapons at police officers, hurling a desk drawer, a flagpole, a metal walking stick and a wooden pole with a spear-like point.

The Justice department appeals to get harsher sentences for seditious convictions.

The Justice Department on Monday appealed the sentences of five members of the Proud Boys, including its former leader, Enrique Tarrio, aiming to get stiffer penalties for those convicted for their role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
...
While each of the four men convicted of seditious conspiracy received sentences of at least 15 years in prison — Tarrio’s sentence was 22 years — many of the figures fell far below what was originally sought by prosecutors.

The notice of appeal does not include any legal arguments, and instead alerts the court to prosecutors’ plans.

He was sentenced to 60 days, years after the event and more than 60 days after he pled guilty.
Can you say "statute of limitations"? I think you can. It is five years in general on most, with some exceptions.
"For capital crimes, such as the capital murder, there is no statute of limitations (18 USC 3281).
People died on Jan 6th, Are you familiar with aiding and abetting?
"Terrorism is also not subject to any statute of limitations where the offence caused death or serious bodily injury or harm (18 USC 3286)."

Insurrection can fall under Terrorism, so I'm thinking there will be no limitation on charges due to Jan 6th.

Woman accused of stealing Pelosi’s laptop from Capitol on Jan. 6 ordered to pay $50K to ex-boyfriend who reported her to feds, her dad, too!

Investigators had initially believed Williams might have tried to sell the device to Russia’s foreign intelligence services, and authorities believed that she went on the run after being identified in a video from Jan. 6, but her lawyer insisted that Williams was fleeing an abusive ex-boyfriend.
That ex, Michael Prodanov, of New Jersey, sued Williams over comments she made accusing him of abuse and domestic violence. On Oct. 16, Mercer County Superior Court Judge Douglas Hurd entered a judgment of default in his favor.
“Defendant Riley June Williams shall pay to Plaintiff the amount of $50,000 in compensation for (special damages, actual damages, nominal damages) for Defamation Per Se, and Defamation,” the order says. Hurd tacked on a restraining order against Williams, prohibiting her from “publishing per se defamatory and defamatory statements,” including on social media, about Prodanov, his business, and his personal relationships.
Hurd also ordered Williams’ father and co-defendant, Cyrus “Cy” Sanders, to pay $50,000 to Prodanov as well. According to Prodanov’s complaint, Sanders posted to Facebook that Prodanov “created the false narrative against Riley Williams with Nancy Pelosi’s laptop.”

4 California men linked to Three Percenters militia convicted of conspiracy in Jan. 6 case

Four California men linked to the “Three Percenters” militia movement have been convicted on charges including conspiracy and obstruction for their roles in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S.
from the article but worth putting out there:

Prosecutors say the men were part of a Three Percenters militia in southern California. The Three Percenters militia movement refers to the myth that only 3% of Americans fought in the Revolutionary War against the British.

They were charged in 2021 alongside Alan Hostetter, a former California police chief, right-wing activist and vocal critic of COVID-19 restrictions, who was convicted in July in a separate trial. Another one of their codefendants, Russell Taylor, pleaded guilty in April to a conspiracy charge.
The four men joined a telegram chat with Hostetter and Taylor called “The California Patriots - DC Brigade” to coordinate plans for coming to Washington. Taylor posted that he created the group for “fighters” who were expected to bring “weaponry” and body armor with them to Washington on Jan. 6, according to prosecutors.

'sovereign citizen' found guilty and taken into custody directly, having wound the judge up in the weeks leading up to his trial and during it
"I'm telling you the facts of life. You don't believe me," Lamberth said. "When they find you guilty, you're going to jail."

Once the jury trial began, Johnatakis didn't call any witnesses or put on a defense.

"I have repented all my sins," Johnatakis said during the trial, saying he requested that Judge Lamberth "discharge" the matter — a common phrase from sovereign citizens — since, he said, there was no "controversy" before the court.

A Jan. 6 defendant, Rachel Powell, who played a prominent role in the U.S. Capitol riot by smashing a window and using a bullhorn to direct others on how to breach the building, has been sentenced to more than four years in prison.

Prosecutors also noted that she had engaged in surveillance activities at a female legislator’s residence before participating in the attack on the Capitol. However, Powell ultimately received a sentence of 57 months.
can she take her bullhorn with her?

texan proud boy guy did shit at the Capitol, lied to the FBI about that and did a little time; his dad called for a welfare check on him after he got drunk and threatened death-by-suicide to his wife, and shot multiple times AT the cops when they came to check on him (very nearly hitting a cop)... that was on April 12th. The cops decide to let him sleep it off in order to protect themselves and left him to turn himself in 2 days later. W.T.F??? and for all this, he got just 2 years for the gun possession (a felony given his time served for jan 6th). He didn't get shot by cops in 'self-defense', nor tasered or otherwise subdued. HE SHOT at COPS and they walked away to let him sleep off his drunk.

no, i'm not suggesting they should have shot him/killed him. i do believe they should have either waited till he fell asleep and then take him (for everyone's safety) and his gun/s or tasered him. If there was a genuine concern about his mental health, the former seems kinder though not necessarily safer for all concerned... i just can't wrap my head around him being allowed to 'sleep it off' for 2 days and letting him turn himself in, given he also tried to enter Canada back in March, just 2 months after the insurrection which he didn't pull off, being "denied entry by Canadian authorities and subsequently detained by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents in Port Huron, Michigan" according to the FBI.

Prosecutors in the Jan. 6 case said Pelham was "apparently drunk" when he shot several rounds on April 12.
"According to subsequent police reports, Pelham called his wife, told her goodbye, and said that he planned to make the police shoot him," they wrote. "Pelham paced outside, holding a gun and yelling at police. He eventually went back inside and fired the gun several times. For their own safety, police left the property that night, and let Pelham sleep off his drinking."

He surrendered at a local police station on April 14. Why didn't they return 6 hours or so later? why leave him to his own devices?

Rotten to the core is the GQP ....

GOP Official Arrested Over Jan. 6 Involvement

Siaka Massaquoi, first vice-chair of the Republican Party of Los Angeles, was reportedly charged over his presence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

.
with video of him INSIDE the building, i wonder why he's told he was charged with 4 misdemeanors OUTSIDE, unless he's lying...

Siaka was taken to Monterey Park Jail where he stayed overnight and was told that he was being charged for four misdemeanors pertaining to his presence outside of the Capital Building in Washington, D.C. on January 6th."

Massaquoi's home in Los Angeles was raided by FBI agents in June 2021, but no arrests were made at the time. "I did nothing wrong on the 6th," he said after the raid.

Videos that were shared on social media showed Massaquoi inside the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the building in a bid to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden's election victory.
