Day 30: A song that reminds you of yourself

Is it okay to choose a song that reminds you of your "former" self?
This song reminds me of myself at a certain time in my life with shocking clarity, and the memory helps prevent me from going back to that place again. These lyrics are piercingly accurate. Ironically I enjoyed this song at the time it was happening to me, so it must have gone right over my head... lol.
P.S. This entire album is a classic.

Soft Cell - Bedsitter

Day 29 - a song from your childhood - this was tough (as were many others) but i try not to use the same song or artist in hopes others find new music they may like - 1st Chapin came to head but I thpught I had already posted that, but it was a conversation with another lit'er about him I recalled. So I'll leave that. But I also thought of Kenny Rogers - I was exposed to both by my parents, I still listen to Harry Chapin, but not Kenny Rogers. However, it was the 1st concert I was ever at with my parents and an uncle, I remember Gallagher opened, and know one knew who he was at the time, he was smashing watermelons and everybody was more like WTF than laughing. Anyway today you get 2 from me!
Harry Chapin - A better Place To Be
Kenny Rogers - The Gambler
Omg the Gambler was one of 10 year old meโ€™s absolute favorites.

I love watching music nerds and reaction videos on YouTube. If you want some insight to vocals, look into The Charismatic Voice. She's a former opera singer who has been diving into metal for the last couple of years and has really shattered the illusion that rock singers are just untrained idiots that happen to sound good ๐Ÿ˜‚
Me too!! Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely check her out!

My only exposure to Adam Ant (or Adam and the Ants, my Internet searches are split on the true answer since 2000) was this scene from SLC Punk! (my favorite fucking movie) was "Beat My Guest". It made the movie, but not the actual soundtrack. Skip to 2:53 for the actual scene
"Beat My Guest" was my alarm for the longest time. :)
SLC Punk has been on my watch list for the longest time. Keep waiting for it to come on to Prime, Netflix or Apple because I refuse to pay for yet another streaming service.

Thanks to Raving Rabbids, I can't hear this song correctly anymore. Same goes for Poker Face or Come Sail Away and South Park.
Haha! Same!! Now I can't get Cartman out of my head singing Come Sail Away.

I really couldn't just pick one as both of these fit the bill and really hit home.

These are a couple of tough songs. I hope you've sorted out your demons. โค๏ธ. Since you like Blue October, check out the documentary Get Back Up. It's all about the lead singer's struggles with mental health and addiction (Hate Me came out during that period) and how he's turned his life around. He is truly inspiring. Now his songs are more positive and hope-filled (though the latest album has some pretty sad songs) but with the same level of raw emotion as ever. I absolutely LOVE this band!! I've seen them live a few times now and they are incredible!!

Listened to this in our familyโ€™s station wagon while facing the wrong way in the third row

Ah, the memories. Remember the song. Remember hating facing backward in the family station wagon. Never happened together, though. Dad wouldnโ€™t play tgat โ€œhippy music.โ€

I know it was on Netflix for the longest time. I think the sequel was too. Wouldn't be surprised if you could find it through Prime video.

I will practice this tomorrow as a reminder of what part of me is
42 years ago.. memorized and command performance in competition
