Why is it that some people in the US are more likely to adopt children from other countries than from within the United Stares, where we are from? What appeal do children from other countries have over people born here? Why is it that people born here are constantly looked over? Plenty of children are given up for adoption monthly here, and are allowed to go through the social services process for years until united with parents. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are given to other countries for THEIR children, no matter the race.

Unfortunately my state puts the rights of the birth parents before what's best for the children. They glamorize reunification, even if the children were malnourished and abused by these people. This leaves the children in limbo sometimes for years. Foster families have been heartbroken by caring for these children for years only to have them returned to the people who neglected/abused them. Understandably many here turn to foreign adoption. More money and red tape but a lot of the time there's no birth parents involved.

So you have people with a history of drug abuse, in prison or crime allowed to keep children without proving their worth as a parent which isn’t right. There are genuine cases of people fostering children because they care, and some fostering them just for the money, which is plain sad. Why then are children made less of a priority for learning, care and priorities than that of a pet it seems?

Edit: This is not my frustration with you as a person but with the system of lack of care for the inhabitants living here and the amount of care and concern as shown by our system of government.

I hate that this seems like a General Board question.

Doctor Who seemed much improved last night with Russell T Davies at the helm...

It's why I had to leave Social Services. I was angry all the time. And honestly I saw very few in fostering for the money. The state doesn't pay anything near what a child costs these days. Not saying there aren't crappy foster parents out there, but no amount of money would be enough to handle the trauma behaviors of some of these poor kids.

The foster care system in the country is a joke. The children and foster parents that care are the punchline is this sad joke.

I cried, begged and even committed small crimes as a pre-teen/teen in order to get away from my abusive mother (physical, mental, and emotionally abusive). I had a "father" that walked out before I was even born.... the police were called, child protection services were called, emergency room visits, school nurse testimony and STILL, I was left in that house of horrors.

I offered to adopt my half-sister's daughter when she was 12. My half-sister was into drugs and prostitution. She denied me because "I would just spoil her and not teach her how the real world is." That was over 9 years ago and I have no idea where my niece is anymore....
I want to give you a real big hug right now

Years...YEARS of therapy/counseling and a fucking amazing husband with amazing in-laws helped me crawl out of the fucking hole that woman put me in.

I'm good now! I remember the past but it doesn't hurt anymore and I'm no longer a prisoner to that pain.
I’m so happy that you found a loving support system and in a good place. I take back that I called you a warrior because you’re a real life phoenix 💜

The good ones are weeded out... can't have real progress otherwise the system can't be milked.
There are some good ones left but there's too many kids and it's overwhelming. Although I did have one set bring a perfectly healthy baby back after one night because it cried too much. They tried to get me in trouble for refusing to put babies in their home anymore. 😂🙄

My mother-in-law was adopted after she was found in a garbage can at a month old! She was quickly adopted by an Irish Catholic couple, who had already had an adopted daughter. Today, she probably would have been returned to her birth parents!

There's just way too much paperwork in some states, especially those who want to be under "Christian Sharia Law!"

My experience it was almost impossible. I tried to adopt while doing foster care, then within the state, finally the continental US. I worked with 2 different agencies. I wasn’t looking for a perfect healthy baby. My preference was older, special needs. After 3 years I finally adopted out of China. That took 10 months and less than 20k cause she was considered older at 2 1/2 and thought to have medical issues.

So many good people don't adopt because of red tape and money. Makes me both angry and sad

I want to apologize for my seemingly offensive comment. I’ll admit, there is a lot I don’t understand about the whole process. I used to be a birth registrar. I know there were at least 2-5 newborns given up per month from a huge hospital facility where there were at least 150-200 births a day. My niece was adopted as a child, born here in US. I have to remember not all experiences are the same, just like not all families are the same.

Avocados are horrible.

Pineapple and jalapenos on pizza are amazing.

Cats are better than dogs.
Avocados are not food
Pineapple should NEVER get near a pizza..if so call it something else
Dogs are better than cats ask mine he is great at chasing cats off.

I think it's somewhat easier if you pay big bucks to an adoption agency but the wait can be long because there are so many who want a newborn. Adopting through DCS is sometimes impossible, like Chilly said. It's pathetic that the rights of criminals come before the needs of the children.

I should have adopted in my 30s but I waited too long. I'm too old and tired now.
