30 years ago, I was a vehement atheist. I have mellowed out and can accept the probability that gods exist, with the caveat that gods should be chosen as carefully as friends, lovers, lawyers, accountants, etc. I don't feel inclined to choose any of them, so I could now be a deist.

55 years ago I was an adamant Christian. I went to church regularly. I was "saved" by the pastor. I was baptized. Then I went to Vietnam. An old saying goes "There are no atheists in a foxhole". That's bullshit. More Atheists are made by spending time in foxholes than any other reason. Sometime in my twenties, after the reception home, that crystalized and took its final shape: by empirical observation, the available proof was there is no such thing as "God".

Apparently, you misinterpreted what I wrote. Perhaps clarification is in order. At the time the pastor was the one who baptized me, showed me "the way to Christ". So in essence he "saved" me. That's what I meant.

I don't begrudge anyone believing whatever they wish to. Saying prays to the Flying Spaghetti Monster is okay with me as long as it harms no one else.

But, as I said, by empirical observation over 55 years, I came to the conclusion that the whole concept I experienced was a sham, and still is for that matter. So no, another "look" wouldn't convince me otherwise, because there is nothing to prove "god, gods or any other deity " exisit or is real.

They are almost always passive on every front. Its not just recently. Why isn't Biden sending out every Dem with an ounce of charisma to give America a history lesson on how since 2008 the government has been shut down 3 times, all because Repubicans refused to compromise?

Now couple children who are going hungry lets talk something immediately related.

At least 12 states are fighting to lower the working age for children. Each of the states pushing this has their own reasons but if you look at the places these children as young as fourteen would be working its insane. Serving alcohol, working in construction and around other dangerous equipment.

So reducing children's access to food which will entice more and more of them to work. Which WILL affect grades. There is no way a child working lets just say 4-5hour shifts a week is going to keep up their grades. Some obviously will but that's not realistic.

As you increase the work force its going to go from needing what our parents and grandparents grew up in where one person with a mere high school diploma could support a family. Then many of us where two was absolutely necessary now you're gonna add and extra income? This isn't going to be change for these kids to play Playstation when you're already denying them food.

Common sense says this will if not break up families certainly lead to less time spent together which may as well be the same. I mean if your your Dad works 4am-12pm and picks you up from school and drops you off at work, you work from 4pm (school at least here gets out around 3:30) - 8 pm. Where your mother who goes to work from 11pm -7pm (and I didn't even factor in for 30-60 minute lunch) when are you going shit, shower, eat?

How many projects that are part of the infrastructure bill that people like MTG and DeSantis are touting as their accomplishments when MTG voted against it and I don't need to look at least at the Florida Senators to know who didn't support it.

Why is this message not pushing pushed through like "Fake media", "lock her up".

Libs just sit back and take the abuse. You'd think sometime after we were hearing about Gore's black love baby and whatever happened to Kerry in the war, Obama being a Kenyan born Muslim we'd stop with the "When they go low, we go high" and embrace "if you ain't cheating you ain't trying?"

Hell returning just to the first bits. If you had Democratic women pointing their colleagues across the way and telling people that the difference between a Dem and Republican is this.

I'm happy to spend our tax dollars to make certain your children have food and health care. They are don't care if your kids eat but would happily have them serving in bars.

Once upon a time, I was like the original poster, Kinked a Bit. I was pretty young, just a clueless teenager, and didn't know a whole lot about the world back then. But a lot of my friends, well, we told racist jokes and thought it was funny. We would yell racial slurs and think it was okay. And God forbid, if you did anything or showed any mannerisms that were even slightly, shall we say, "Effeminate," you would get ostracized, made fun of, shunned. And we were pretty much taught that being gay meant that there was something seriously wrong with you. It was, to be fair, a different time.

But that doesn't excuse how utterly clueless- and wrong- I was. It was never okay.

Eventually I went off to college. There, I met a whole bunch of diverse and wonderful people. Many were minorities. And yes, some were gay. I learned, over time, that it certainly was NOT okay to tell racist jokes, hate on people of color, or hate on gays or lesbians. This last one took me a couple years to overcome. Being "De-programmed" was part of it, but the main part that helped me overcome my homophobic bigotry was really interacting with people, and learning to like and appreciate the goodness in them. And accept that yes- some people have an attraction to the same gender- and there is nothing wrong with that, it is only a small part of who they are, and it should not be condemned.

And I hope that one day, the "kinked a bits" of this world will learn to overcome their irrational hatred and bigotry as well. But in the meantime, I would appreciate it most kindly if they did not use these forums to spread their hateful and bigoted views. And someday, I hope that they will live to regret doing so. As I now regret saying the some of the hurtful things I once said as a clueless and immature teenager.

Then I went to law school and realized that, to some people, right and wrong are just words without any real meaning. Which is why we have politicians who lie about their resume/past in order to get elected and other politicians who engage in insider trading to get rich at the expense of others. Police and DA's who refuse to arrest and prosecute murderers while chasing rally goers across the country and bashing in doors in the middle of the night. Refuse to arrest and prosecute violent rioters while trying to convict those who defend themselves from violence and attack.

I think that anyone who voluntarily puts themselves in harms way and prepares/trains to do whatever it takes to get their mission done, isn't a "pussy."
