Maine on lockdown: Deplorable kills 18

There are dumb asses everywhere. Karma can be a bitch. MILLIONS of gun owners have shot no one, how is that possible. i'm checking out of this thread too. I'm not going to argue with a bunch of hippies.
MILLIONS of CAR OWNERS never have ANY PERSONAL INJURIES yet... Hmmm!! We all pay our insurance so those that are injured get compensated.

YOU are happy sending your love, good wishes, heartfelt sorrow......... NONE of that pays any of the bills!

REGULATE the FUCKING GUNS !!

Also show the AFTERMATH....... if it makes grown up serious policemen toss their cookies in Uvalde maybe seeing the carnage would wake the American Public the fuck up. Oh wait, the majority of us WHAT regulation. What we don't want is to come to your piece of shit property to take the gun out of your 2 year old's hands after you sign off from this existance.

looks like it was the military that had him put into mental health care for those two weeks back in the summer. In which case, again, the laws clearly aren't enough that he can so easily access firearms on getting out.

some army guy he helped train in a firearm said that though card had never seen active combat he was very smart, very savvy, very tactical. He felt the only real chance of catching card was to bring in soldiers.

Personally, I think he might have killed himself and he is out in a wooded area.
But there is that but….

At a news conference in his hometown Thursday evening in Lewiston, Rep. Jared Golden, a Democrat who had enjoyed an A+ rating from gun rights advocates, said he regretted his past opposition to an assault weapons ban and said he would now support a ban.

“The time has now come for me to take responsibility for this failure, which is why I now call on the United States Congress to ban assault rifles, like the one used by the sick perpetrator of this mass killing in my hometown of Lewiston, Maine,” said Golden, who represents a largely rural district that includes Lewiston.

“To the victims and their families,” he said, “I ask for your forgiveness and support as I seek to put an end to these terrible shootings.”

Golden said he didn’t think a mass killing like the one in his hometown could happen in Maine, which has the lowest violent crime rate in the nation.

Last year, House Democrats narrowly passed an assault weapons ban for the first time in roughly 30 years. Golden, who represents a competitive swing district and is a member of the moderate group of Blue Dog Democrats, was one of five House Democrats who voted against the ban. The legislation was never brought to a vote in the Senate.

yeah, once it happens to your own town it's hard not to ignore reality... though some still will and others will accept it but still fight against it in an attempt to stay in power

Maine is a hotbed of militias and white nationalist assholes just like the one the House just installed.

Senate Voted to Let Vets With Mental Issues Keep Guns Hours Before Maine Shooting

Hours before the rampage, the Senate voted 53-45 to adopt an amendment making it easier for veterans with mental disabilities to get guns. The Department of Veteran Affairs is currently required to send the names of veterans who need assistance managing their benefits to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
The amendment adopted on Wednesday, introduced by Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), overturns this requirement. "My amendment would prevent government workers from unduly stripping veterans of their right to bear arms," Kennedy said. "Every veteran who bravely serves our country has earned VA benefits, and it's wrong for the government to punish veterans who get a helping hand to manage those resources."
Five senators who caucus with Democrats - three Democrats and two Independents, all up for reelection in 2024 - voted with Republicans to adopt the amendment. "It is not right that a D.C. bureaucrat at VA could take away a veterans' legal right to their firearms simply because they needed assistance managing their finances," said Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mt.).

Angus King, an Independent who represents Maine, also voted to adopt it. So did Susan Collins, the long-serving Maine Republican. Neither senator's office immediately responded to requests for comment about the vote.

Sooner or later, Americans will understand it doesn't have to be like this. Unfortunately...we won't be able as a nation to EVER agree to any reasonable solution. That's why I fully support a State's right to break with the nation. We can't fix a problem using a broken system. But an individual state can join with other like-minded states and create a new country...and they can save themselves.

People here criticize me for this belief. I say...show me a better option. Doing nothing yields nothing. I am not much on using prayers. So...at least I put forward a solution that can work.

Okay, another horrible mass shooting:

Liberals: we need tougher gun laws.
Right wingers: it's not guns it's mental health.
Liberals: okay let's improve access and funds for mental health.
Right wingers: no, that's socialism.
Let’s get them on big pharma meds that give you suicidal thoughts. Lab rat nation. Meanwhile everyone supports blowing up cities full of women and children. Interesting.

We already know that you're a wimp who is willing to wave the white flag to those who threaten the Union with violence, rather than kicking the MAGAts out of government to the degree that real action can take place on controlling gun violence.

No....I have been waiting for 20 years for sdults to do the right thing. 19,000 Americans have been killed or wounded since 2005 by this issue. Nothing is done. You talk the good talk...but nothing you propose ever comes through. Why should sane people be assfucked by people unwilling to do the right thing?

It is the "magats". It is those that don't vote. You can't make up your mind. So....fix the problem. More and more people see it my way. The Federal Govt can do nothing concerning this. So...what does that leave? The States. How else can it be done? At least I am offering a real solution

Ya do know that Dems luv their guns too!

Most cops are ex military.
No, only about 20% of cops are ex-military.

They are usually the worst of the worst, because the only similarity between law enforcement is A ) you get to wear a uniform and B ) you get to shoot a weapon.

Military folks are trained to escalate any hostile situation as quickly and with as much overpowering force as possible.

In a civilian environment, in theory cops should be trained to DE-ESCALATE tense situations as much as possible, but as we've seen in video after video, a sizable cops in a post-9/11 environment see themselves as extension of the military (this misconception drives the "defund the police" narrative) and have adopted a "shoot first, qualified immunity afterwards" mentality, to the detriment of their profession.

Why don’t you cite the bill that RWs are against mental health appropriations and I’ll show you a bill that was most likely just filled with pork spending having nothing to do with mental health. I bet if mental health appropriations was a stand alone bill it would pass, perhaps unanimously.
