Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

Well, Emmer‘s the deal. Now that Emmer chatted with Trump can he expect support from democrats?

Maybe if a hundred or so Dems vote present we can get back to regular order.

Like I’ve said - Tepid tea with a sugar pinch of false equivalence blame for the D’s.

Unless Emmer gives any guarantees to Democrats, there is no reason they will vote for him. My expectation is they will continue to fully support Jeffries.

Republicans caused this mess with rule changes they signed onto. The true answer to the problem is not to elect Republicans who are the party of chaos.

Why should Democrats bail out Republicans?

After all, with people like you making claims, such as the partial list out of ten pages of hits on your rants on Democrats. I can see why they might just want the Republicans ( who think and act just like you) to have some self-reflection and LEARN how to govern.

And vice versa, I don't have any use for democrats either, they're just plain corrupt to the core.
Well you do now...see above in RED....
People can see right through majority party tyranny. The original intent was to establish a 9/11 type commission with equal number of reps selected by each party, 10 total by each party, two from each majority and minority leaders for a total of (8), the majority would select the chair and the minority would appoint the vice chair. These reps were supposed to be selected from outside of government. The house agreed to the ground rules and both sides in the house agreed subpoenas would be issued with bi-partisan agreement. It failed in the senate.

McCarthy withdrew when Pelosi determined the democrats would appoint the chair for the commission and the chair would have the final authority over the selection process for reps. All reps were congressional members which did not follow the composition of the 9/11 commission where the members would be outside of government. The commission's scope did not include the political violence by left wing groups from the year before
Pelosi, ran the Democrats, and with a margin similar to today's house, and she got things done, even if you didn't like it.
All democrats vote in lockstep like the mindless bots they are. Party loyalty above the needs of their constituents.
And the Republicans are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.....
Today’s democrats are the woke crowd, they preach inclusivity unless you disagree with their pedigree then you’re exclude, possibly tarred and feathered then left for dead. The pendulum is slowly swinging back to rational thought.
Woke, maybe if the Republicans in the house "woke" up and smelt the coffee, they learn to Govern.
Can’t do any worse then democrats. :D
Really???? I beg to differ....
Republicans and conservatives don’t want to tear down the system ; democrats do!
Well who's currently tearing down the House? Republicans or Democrats?
Because that’s what democrats do. They don’t fix problems, they just throw money at it, raise taxes and walk away hoping it’ll fix itself.
Well that and they also can elect a House leader....
Like the senate democrats were incapable of prepping a bill or a resolution way back in January. McCarthy has very little latitude on this bill, it’s strongly supported by all house republicans. Apparently Comshaw didn’t watch the speaker nomination and seating debacle. Biden needs to realize he’s not just dealing with the speaker. Schumer is not on solid ground, he’s procrastinating for fear of exposing how weak he is as the Senate leader.
Ahh a much better side the Senate, there the Republicans can actually be effective.
Throw the bitch in the DC gulag, give democrats a taste of their own medicine.
lol and who would this be aimed at??? Yes, your such a nice person.
I see this as a win for republicans.
You still think its a win........lol Yah I'll bet you do!!
Unlike the party lemmings of the democratic party there are republicans out there with enough courage to stand on principle. The party line is not acceptable. Need to find a viable speaker that has the balls to stand on principle who will say what all republicans believe in their heart. Control spending, fix the border, shitcan the green energy nut bags, cut the debt.
Yes that seems to be more of challenge than you first thought....Ball cutting will have to wait!!
I think the republican party will come back stronger and more united on conservative values.
Think??? My guess is you're on your hands and knees praying!!!!

lol so you can't answer why Democrats should help out Republicans....

PS, I just quote what you said, not my problem if you don't like your words....

Once they ask...we should. Because we helped facilitate this clusterfuck knowing how dysfunctional the Republicans are and still sided with 8 traitors.

Emmer won't get the votes. There is only one path out of this. Same as I have been saying for 3 weeks. McCarthy. It will take a dozen Democrats to do the right thing

We have voted for Jeffries.

There is no reason to vote otherwise.

Your answer is to capitulate to Republicans who are literally behaving like children, with the expectation that it benefits anyone.

It does not

If McCarthy provides guarantees, then it will happen. Until then, it will not.

You really continue to suck at politics and continue to support Republicans in their endeavors.

Once they ask...we should.
It's my understanding they did offer to help but McCarthy turned them down.
Because we helped facilitate this clusterfuck knowing how dysfunctional the Republicans are and still sided with 8 traitors.
Why they haven't kick those 8 out of the party is beyond me...

This round should be interesting. They must know if they don't elect him, they will have to get the Democrats support.

To resolve this only a handful of republicans need to vote for Jeffries. Unfortunately the GOP would rather embrace dysfunction than cooperation.
Why should they? If Democrats want to cooperate...have them help elect McCarthy. In no way should Jeffries ever carry the gavel. He is part of why we are here

My theory is that once the deadline for those appropriation bills or anotherCR looms close, we'll see the end of the shit show.

I wouldn't count on that...that is exactly what the far Right wants...total destruction of what is. So that means one side has to cross to the other and offer help...personally I think Jeffries has to go to McCarthy...and see if any relationship is repairable...but they would have to offer a clean slate (no demands) and give on something big (discretionary budget cuts). I think the Democrats ruined that possibility by voting as they did.

Just as people don't see Trump as the problem...they will see this as caused by the Democrats. This is the reality. Most Democrats have no clue what most people want.

Well, he WAS the deal. News a few minutes ago said he has taken himself out of the race after D. Trump leveled him with a tirade. No more support for Mr. Emmer. We - They - are back to square one, as some posted so aptly before. Republicans go once more to the brink of destruction and are spiraling into that eminent black hole.

OK, House Dems: Pick some moderate Republican who can be flexible and who can get at least 50 Republican votes and vote him in yourselves. Let's get this wagon moving. The Republicans will forever be embarrassed, and the point will be made to the electorate.

I've taken some liberty and corrected your post - to reflect a truer picture. The last paragraph needs some correction. The first paragraph is okay - it is your opinion after all, and you are entitled to it. However the last has no way of being substantiated. You attempt to speak for people other than yourself whom you do not know.
Just as MAGA-type people don't see Trump as the problem...they will see this as caused by the Democrats. This is the reality. Most Democrats have no clue have a better clue as to what most people want. [Based upon having won the last Presidential Election just as one criterion]

Well, this is a refreshing and different way of taking the bull by the horns and foraging ahead with a positive direction in mind! A call for bipartisanship at last! Way to go, Keith. I'll make sure to sign on to this approach.

Now, you realize that brave Republican has to 'want to live in Hell' for the rest of his/her political life. As such, the selectee should be someone planning on retiring soon and moving out of his/her home state immediately afterward.

Leadership Potentials?
  • Kevin McCarthy. Speaker of the House.
  • Steve Scalise. Majority Leader.
  • Tom Emmer. Majority Whip.
  • Elise Stefanik. House Republican Conference Chair.
  • Gary Palmer. Republican Policy Chair.
  • Mike Johnson. House Republican Conference Vice-Chair.
  • Lisa McClain. House Republican Conference Secretary.
  • Guy Reschenthaler. Deputy Whip.

Why is it so tough to negotiate?

Isn’t it better to have a speaker who is more interested in governing than partisanship?

Obviously the GOP doesn’t have the ability to do anything with the MAGA cult as baggage.

The Democrats are going to want some concessions for their votes and the GOP just needs to realize that this is how democracy works in thin margins.

I think enough real GOPs know what a shit show it would be if they let the Freedom Caucus run everything just so they could shut it all down. I think they’re getting fed up.

If the GOP solicits votes from democrats the MAGAs might split off, and that might be fine with a lot of the GOP.

It could be just as good if the far left split off from the dems - they could continue to caucus together.

Either the GOP will galvanize and pull together for a new speaker with the Freedom Caucus eating shit-pie, or the GOP will break.

I agree with most of what you're saying. The trouble is, and of course this is just my outsiders opinion; that most of the House members are scared of getting into contested primaries. Seems that's the sword of Damocles, hanging over their heads. Gym Jordan's try at the speakership showed this.

Honestly if they don't have the balls to stand up and vote for what they stand for, why the fuck are they there???

Emmer has quit.
As soon as he was announced as the candidate he got inundated with "non negotiable demands" from the Gaetz-MTG bombthrower faction, just like Kevin McCarthy did.

Unlike McCarthy, though, Emmer said "fuck it, this is not worth it" and bailed.

I actually admire the guy for that.

Greene and Gaetz and fellow travellers still think they control the agenda. Mayhaps they do.
