Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

Republicans need to find an outsider to come in and take over this circle jerk. Someone who isn’t seeking elected office and would be willing to work in the interest of the American people until Jan 2025. Where’s Colin Powell when you need him?
Funny thing, I was thinking just the same thing yesterday--if Covid hadn't gotten Colin Powel.

The Republicans will never work with Democrats again. Ever. Jeffries destroyed any future bipartisan legislation.
They accuse us of hating America almost every day, they routinely vilify the president and his family, they primary out any of their own members who don't hate Democrats quite as much as they do...and you think they would have been willing to reach across the aisle if our side had voted to save their speaker - whom most of them never really liked - from their own members? Dribble, exactly what rock have you been living under since at least the early '90s? Seriously, you'd have to go back to the pre-Gingrich era for your implied claim here to have even a little bit of plausibility.

And for the nine millionth time, the Dems did offer to help McCarthy. He wouldn't offer anything whatsoever in return. That's on him.

No more Gymmie? Who is next?
Tom Emmer reportedly wants to be the next one to be ritually humiliated. More power to him.

Jim Jordan: “Look, there’s been multiple rounds of votes for speaker before. We all know that. I just know that we need to get a speaker as soon as possible so we can get to work for the American people.”

Haha! It’s been 10 months since McCarthy won the speakership. Here Jordan spins that embarrassing, humiliating, unprecedented voting event into accepted precedent for House Republicans selecting a leader.

Well, you could argue now that it is. Traditionally it's been the Democrats who couldn't get all their ducks in a row, where a few lefties could spoil the party by refusing to get behind someone who doesn't check every box...but they were never this bad. Now twice in a row, the Republicans are. Really, it's a sign that the deplorables have finally pushed the envelope too far. At least since Reagan, the moderate Republicans have usually accepted that they were outvoted and gotten in line with the party leadership, and it's been enormously beneficial to the party. Now that is no longer happening.

I mean, at some point you have to stand up for what values you say you have- having the chamber held hostage by Venmo and friends isn’t exactly governing.

Moderate Republican is an oxymoron

Beneficial to the party? Getting in line with the leadership? Where did that get the moderate Republicans? Conservative and evangelical crazies took over and landed the nation in the present disaster. The conservatives were able to do that because the moderates and liberals in the GOP appeased them, just like congressional Democrats appease congressional Republicans. In politics, there are those who always chase "public opinion" and thus go wherever the wind blows in the name of their "career", and those that stand firm on their policies and seek to convince other people that these policies are correct. Only the latter will leave a good legacy.

Biden is also a disaster. Real left-wing people stand firmly against him, his reactionary policies and his big business party.

The Republicans have majority of the House. You can't blame Biden for it....sorry

If after all this drama, delay and idiocy McCarthy ends up back as speaker then the GOP is going to come off as the biggest group of morons. Putting the country at risk because of an internal temper tantrum just to end back at where they started would be a stunningly stupid move.

And that’s why it’s probably the thing that happens. These ‘pubs like making history even if it’s negative. They just see it as winning! (Same mentality as Charlie)

I wonder how many Pubs want the speaker vacancy extended to scare the Dems, and how many are using it as a distraction.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Though it still holds true no matter who eventually becomes speaker.

This clown show was predicted and predictable.

Tonight's news was troubling [when isn't it?]
  • UN leader was outshouted by Gaza protestors at a press conference to address aid to Palestinians - canceled and everyone back on the buses.
  • Israel wants to search the trucks for guns/ammo, but there is no plan for that.
  • Egypt allows protests - the first time in what 20 years that it has allowed that?
  • Humanitarian food, fuel, medicine, and water sit - no one has a plan on how it gets distributed or where it goes. People might panic and attack the trucks to get those supplies, or Hamas might.
  • Yemani terrorists launch numerous missiles and drones [over 20] thought to be headed to Israel - USA Navy destroyer put an end to them in flight. Go Navy!
  • More troops are massing along all fronts facing Israel.
  • US House of Representatives goes leaderless - another controversial want-a-be goes down in defeat. Another 'do-over' starts with no 'star' on the horizon.
    • A bit of irony - Republicans blame Democrats for this, although they have the majority. That's humorous right there. [Every (R) congressman/woman starts his/her statements with: 'It's the democrats fault we are in this Republican mess. They voted with eight crazies to get us into this situation.'
    • Notice no one reached over the aisle to ask for a bipartisan effort to set this right - not even McCarthy.
    • A Republican congressman's interview today was made in front of Will Roger's statue. He paraphrased Will Roger's famous quote on learning, pointing out the irony: There are three kinds of Republicans: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. And the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence to get their learning experience. [Hopefully, everyone gets this, so I don't have to come back and explain it.]
  • Good news points: Two American POWs were released from Gaza by Hamas. Thank the Lord for that.

Funny, sounds like the same treatment Trump got for 4 years. I remember the most despicable insults thrown at Melanie Trump so get off your hypocritical soap box, democrats are the absolute worst. Democrats never reach across the aisle in good faith.

Who's Melanie Trump? And you don't see me or anyone else blaming the Republicans for failing to save Democrats from extremists in their ranks (not sure how you'd be able to tell anyway when you think they're all extremists, but I digress.).

lol you can't even get Trump's wife name right. Fucking hilarious....second best laugh of the am!! ( you'll have to do better to beat out AJ's)

Melania, I stand corrected, it did auto correct to Melanie 3 times, but you get the point. The lit left trashed her, treated her with such disrespect as a First Lady. I never saw that level of disrespect towards Obama. Other than a few jabs at Jill’s doctorate degree there were no vile characterizations. Democrats often take part in vile character assassinations. Look no further than the Kavanaugh senate confirmation hearings.

So, you are trying to pretend that the treatment Michelle Obama received was respectful...

And let us not forget the reality that Trump bashed Democrats multiple times a day as president. My president accused me of wanting to destroy my country multiple times every single day.

Fuck off.

Trumper hypocrite.

I never read anywhere where Michelle was called a slut, whore. She took a face full for her anti American comments but other than that she was idolized. She was on the cover of just about every magazine worth a shit. I don’t recall Melania being on one.

Party bashing is typical politics. Biden accuses MAGA as being an existential threat to America, so much for uniting the masses.
