Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

seems mccarthy is keen for bowtie boy to wield power without a vote to expand the power of a pro-tem speaker

“When I put McHenry’s name down it was my belief that if something happened to me, that McHenry could run the floor until we elected a new speaker. It was not my intention when I put a name down that they couldn’t do anything,” McCarthy told reporters after Thursday's meeting during which lawmakers debated whether to vote on Joyce’s resolution.

and for those arguing that bowtie boy is only concerned about the constitutionality of this matter, let's not forget he also told other members that he would also consider dropping out if a vote came TO the floor to expand his powers, having no interest in them. I think these words from him say everything we need to know about why he's making such stands and when:

McHenry, for his part, has consistently denied any interest in expanding his role.

“I’m focused on electing Jim Jordan, the speaker nominee, as speaker of the House,” he told reporters today when he briefly left the conference meeting. “That’s my goal, that’s my purpose.”
so by killing the attempted push forward to expand his power (if he needed it or not), he's kicked the ball back to jordan who might now be seen by some holdouts as 'the only option' under the pressures of time

What a joke of a party this is.
See, if I were a democrat and this was happening to me and my party - this would be a crisis that would have me re-examining my values and I would, for good of country, declare my independence and caucus with the party that serves my constituents and insures American military readiness. For republicans? Ha! Not a chance! Patriots my ass.

Sorry for the double-post, but they're now reporting that 7AM PST tomorrow will be the next vote.

A bit too far off, but what is the over under on the next speaker making it through Christmas?

It’s not “deflection”, you just got the shit kicked out of you when you were trying to lecture someone.

Democrats never compromise and never will compromise. To compromise with Republicans is to prolong “progress” and that is basically right wing extremism to the idiots who vote Democrat today.
Lol

How I don't miss your searching to troll bullshit.

What's everyone's prediction today?

I'm more confident in 190 for Jordan now...

Based on conversations I've had, it seemed like not everyone really knew who Jim Jordan was before this - and how much of an egotistical sleaze he is. Or the level of caustic prick he is. They sure do now; he's showing the world.

The good news is, if he fucks up after this somehow with a scandal - and I suspect he might - he won't be able to hide.

Is Thunderdome an option?

Three Speaker enter, No Speaker leave.

It's the likely scenario yet again, but the prediction currently is on vote count.

Will any Democrats break with the party? Did Sean Hannity threaten whip enough Jordan votes?

Crenshaw was just on CNN. First time I've heard him speak where I didn't want to gag.

I've got to think that some of the younger Republicans who want to actually govern are getting pretty sick of their party with all this bullshit theater. They're not gonna flip Dem (necessarily), but I believe they're going to start pushing back and possibly do a different thing.
