Saudi-Israel normalization was supposed to be the US response to the normalization of relations between the Saudis and the Iranians at the urging of the Chinese.

The US establishment doesn't want to be bogged down in the Middle East when they need to harm Russia and China in the upcoming period with proxy wars. What I find incredible is that the Biden administration has had all these foreign policy disasters, and so many people are so blindly partisan in the nonsensical culture wars that they will let Biden do whatever disasters without calling him out on it.

Trump's style is more a shouting match with Putin that pushes things very hard, to the brink of war (like he did with Kim Jong Un) and then try to make some sort of deal. Trump would likely have confronted China much earlier. Biden's calculations were different, i.e. expand NATO, drain and dismember Russia and then do the same with China later.

There was that famous meeting with Donald Trump and European leaders during Trump's time as president, where he asked Germany why they were doing cosy gas deals with Russia when the Russians were supposed to be "our rivals"? Trump then proceeded to say that he didn't see the point of NATO when the US pays so much into it while European countries trade with "our rivals" and pay far less into NATO. It's obvious that this massively spooked the Bidens, Clintons and Obamas in the Democratic Party establishment, thus the Democrats wanting to expand NATO as a priority and to wield European politicians to US foreign policy.

Germany had previously been doing trade deals with Russia, and military intelligence co-operation with NATO and the US. The German ruling class thought that by playing both the US and Russia that Germany could carve out a position of power in Europe, but the US wrecked all that with the Ukraine war. Germany now faces a future of deindustrialization like what Thatcher did to Britain in the 1980s, and like the Rust Belt in the US.

Obama used to choose a list of people, every Tuesday if I remember right, who were to be killed by drone strike in the Middle East and North Africa. All males of combat age were treated as combatants in statistics. Some weddings and funerals were also bombed.

The Carter administration also started arming mujahideen in Afghanistan against the Soviets (which Reagan expanded) and alienated groups like trade unionists (PATCO stopped backing Carter because of Carter's policies, with the PATCO leadership then backing Reagan, before Reagan then proceeded to break PATCO's strike and sack every single striker). Even the middle class groups, like the feminist groups, Carter alienated. Carter even lost Massachusetts in 1980, thanks to the whole primary rivalry with Ted Kennedy. All these things paved the way for it to be possible for Reagan to become president.

Do Democrats today ever ask themselves how it was possible to go from two Obama terms as president to Trump becoming president? Do they ask themselves how it is possible that Trump might win the presidency again in 2024?
