- They are our traditional lanterns

Pumpkins are not originally grown up here, but we have sugar beets abundant!
So it was a harvest thing, and a pagan thing. It is between the solstices after all..

When I was a child, we made them in school.. gosh, it was dangerous! Beets are tough and solid! But.. we loved it!

My kids prefer to make the pumpkin lanterns.. but, we make the beets as well!

The picture is from one of the castles over here, the white Lady is said to walk around all hallows Eve!
